TLN 19. Hudson Malinoski He was already a very long shot at the draft when he was selected D+1 in Rd 5 because of his grievous accident injury when he was younger, so just even playing hockey is gravy. Production in his sophomore season with Providence was numerically similar (+2G, +3A) and he...

    2025-26 Marlies Thread

Marlies are projected to be over the veteran limit without some game day roster juggling (which happens naturally anyway), but I can see them giving Matt Benning and/or one of the older forwards a shot at a rebuilding NHL roster. Bolded ones have NHL SPCs. Up front it's a logjam: I have them in...

TLN 20. Borya Valis In case you missed it, Borya Valis was a free agent signing out of the WHL back in March. He finished his final season with the Prince George Cougars putting up 80 pts in 66 GP. He's a 6'2" RW that plays an energy game and likes to go to the net with the puck; it started...

I am only able to read this as WJ Crankings Johansson (LD) who was drafted as a beanpole deep in the draft, played in this summer showcase as Sweden’s 1RD on his off side. Annoyingly, looks like Kent Hughes/Montreal has yet another good RHC in Aatos Koivu, son of Saku.

Exactly the Jonatan Berggren deal that I suggested as a comp in the general trade thread. MLHS brought it up in their pre-arb article this morning. https://mapleleafshotstove.com/2025/08/02/parameters-for-a-nick-robertson-contract-come-into-view-ahead-of-arbitration-with-the-maple-leafs/

I mean when negotiating outside of arbitration, the offers are usually higher than what Teams put forward for the hearings to anchor the rulings.

Gearing up for the stretch drive to Training Camp. The PPP voters appear to be struggling with this list (because it's not great).

This is player-elected arbitration. Leafs didn't even low ball him that much on this case, which are usually lower than what teams have actually slid across the negotiation table to try to bring the arbitration award amount down.

That is pretty hilarious that they’re going through with this process if those are the numbers involved. 1.89M x 1 yr?

Apparently Varland has a flamethrower and some nasty hooks to complement, and under team control-ish until 2031

Can someone explain this in Leafs/NHL terms? Were his parents ASoIaF fans?

Pretty much, yeah. He touched the scoresheets of 19 teammates, out of 32 skaters who suited up for the Leafs.

Reminded me there was a Knies to Kampf to Nylander goal and a Lorentz - Kampf - Nylander shift that turned into a breakaway goal.
