I said Matthews only cause his contract is a lot shorter. And they would fire Berube long before they miss this year's playoffs and are on pace to miss next year's, so I'm assuming a coaching change doesn't turn things around.

If they miss the playoffs this year and aren't looking like a playoff team next year, then maybe Matthews would accept a trade at the deadline and with Matthews gone, Nylander may be open to a trade as well. That's the quickest path to a rebuild I can imagine the organization accepting.

I'm happy for the night, but my overall confidence on the season and next five years remains quite low.
