2025 Blue Jays

Seems about as good a time as any to shift from 2024 to 2025…

Jays were reportedly trying to bring him back, and it's only a 1 year deal, so I'd say he definitely chose the Phillies over the Jays here.

I'll wait to see what they do over the winter here, but it's not feeling very good at this point.

In a way I’m glad they didn’t get Soto? Though I never really thought they had a chance.

But getting him would have papered over the cracks. They need a real, proper strategy and rethink I feel.

Other teams in the division are already looking stronger too I think. Feels like an opportunity missed over the last few years.

Always a bridesmaid...they just don't seem to have a vision that they can sell.

I really don't think it would take a reset to turn this edition of the Jays into bona fide contenders. They have starting pitching, an anchor bat in the middle of the lineup, and solid defence. The big issue is offence, (followed by the bullpen, but bullpens can be assembled if everything else is there) so not hard to see why they made an effort for Soto, though it's hard to get too worked up when he ended up exactly where a lot of pundits thought he would from the start.

I am now more worried about the Vladdy contract than ever. Completely understand we didn't want to commit $30M/yr to him while he was figuring things out, but while I don't know what he could get on the open market, I'm worried that agent's whispering "new baseball economy" will be a siren song he can't resist.

I concur with the concern about Vlad. Which is why I feel the next few weeks are even more crucial. Last summer when they missed out on Ohtani, the pivot was to sign Justin Turner, Kiner-Falefa and Kiermaier. All of whom were traded.

There's still some decent sized holes in the roster.

If they're willing to spend $700m (or $51m a year) on one position, they should be willing to bring in 3 or 4 players with a similar combined hit and high ceiling rather than the level of those 3. I'm not sure that'll happen if they're haggling over Romano's deal (I can kind of understand it if they're worried about his health).

Another off season like that and I don't see why Vlad would even want to stay. He's probably worth even more than the $300m they didn't (understandably in many ways) think he was worth this time last year.

I am starting to lose complete faith in Atkins. Romano a T.O. boy, fan favorite and a great closer is dropped. What a stupid thing to do for a paltry 7 o 8 million by NBL standards. If he had been bad then you eat it. And if he had been bad the fans would understand that he had lost it. I love the guy. Bad marketing move for sure.
Now with Soto inflating the market to an unbelievable 700 million, it is going to cost them a whole of lot more to sign Vlad, another huge fan favourite. Should have reached a deal with him already.
I think the Jays should make a concerted effort to bring Teoscar back. Another fan favourite
Not sure where Rogers is going with this team, have little faith in them as well.
I moved out West 6 years ago and Telus is king out here and now Rogers trying to make inroads without great success.

Not saying this would be the best thing but pehaps MLSE should bring the Jays under their umbrella. Looks like Bell is going to bail from the sports scene. They just bought one of the major cable/cell companies in the N.W. States.

Dude can bunt:

I don't know anything about Jays players. Do we care that Horowitz was traded?
He has a decent bat but no position to play. He’s a 1st baseman but they tried him all over the field and he really wasn’t good defensively, and it’s not like he’s that good of a hitter to make up for it. The other thing is he doesn’t have enough power to be starting at 1b.

I dunno. I guess the trade is ok, it’s another one of those ‘we hope Giménez can start hitting’ type deals. The reliever they got in the trade is pretty decent as well.

Waiting on Vladdy is going to cost them 100's of millions! Yikes! Letting Romano walk is insane at his price considering what they need in the bullpen and being a fan favorite. The Jays have been used as strategic pawns in both the Ohtani and Soto negogiations. Everyone seems to know except Team Shatkins. This is rebuild territory and they have very little in cupboard and trade capital. This feels like the Leafs finishing 2nd last with no 1st round picks for the upcoming 2 seasons... Burkie/Kessel

The jays played no part in the Soto negotiations. They played no part in driving up his price or create leverage. This was always between the Yankees and Mets.

And your Burke/Kessel analogy doesn’t really make sense.

Look, I’m no big fan of Atkins, but I hardly call not landing Soto a failure.

Now, how they’ve handled this Guerrero extension is pure mystery to me.
