PIT
?Sergei Varlamov will start for Colorado after Berra played Monday
?Defenceman Ryan Wilson was injured in Colorado's win over Boston, either Nate Guenin or Zach Redmond will take his place in the line-up

TOR
?Jonathan Bernier will likely start in net for Toronto, although Reimer did participate in an optional skate Monday so he'll likely be good to go if the coaching staff goes with the hot hand
?Based on the morning skate, Reimer will start for the Leafs
?No word on any line-up changes, although it's possible Gardiner could be inserted in
?Changes could also come to the 4th line after they barely saw the ice in the 3rd period against New York

?Tomas Vincour - Undisclosed - Injured Reserve

Id give Ashoton a shot and sit Holland..

why would you play Ashton, he should sent to the Marlies after his training camp. IMO the change to the 4th line should be putting Kozun back on the second line. He is not going to survive a season playing on the checking line. Winnik IMO has no right to play on that line. Just saying

The 2nd line had probably it's best game of the (young) season with Winnik there. He's the closest Kulemin replacement we have on the roster. Lupul and Kadri could use a defensive presence like him with them. Winnik also takes some of the pressure off Kadri when the puck is in our own zone.

For some reason, I'm expecting a 6-2 Colorado win.

I like how they structured their forward group. Their top-6 forwards are all spread out in pairs through 3 lines. Obviously that's easier when you have Duchene-O'Reilly-MacKinnon down the middle, but I wish the Leafs tried something like that. Something like...

x-Santorelli-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Winnik
JVR-Bozak-Clarkson

Just a note, I've really liked Santorelli's play this season. Problem is, who fills in for x there? Komarov doesn't have the hands. Maybe Frattin on his off-wing could give him a boost? Or try Booth there when he returns. Maybe call up Leivo. Nylander would have been an option had he been kept in North America.

edit: I guess that could even be accomplished by just dropping JVR to the "3rd" line if you had somebody else who could play with Bozak and Kessel. But adding a finisher like JVR to Santorelli and Clarkson would really give that 3rd line an offensive boost, and they could finally start getting rewarded offensively for their pressure and zone time.

Should be an interesting game. Two of last season's worst corsi offenders, neither of whom have shown much in terms of changing their ways so far this season.

Well, Komarov's 6 points off his entire total for 2012-13 after 3 games.

True. He could have also had 2-3 goals against New York if he had a NHL shot. He's definitely been active so far.

Ha, you know what?  I hadn't even seen your post up there commenting on Komarov.  My response was completely unrelated and just something I noticed looking on NHL.com this morning.  :P

If Bernier plays, I'd agree. He just hasn't found his game so far. Reimer, on the other hand, has looked pretty solid. Put Reimer in and the Leafs have a shot tonight.

I get the feeling Reimer starts, but that's not based on anything from the team.

Based on the way they've played, Reimer should start. Based on Carlyle's history with the two goalies and especially in light of Reimer being removed from the last game because of a head shot (even though he's practiced since), I expect Bernier will start.

EDIT: Of course, I could be wrong.

jonasTSN1050: James Reimer looks to be tonight's starter versus Colorado.

Good call. The Leafs have a back-to-back with Detroit on the weekend so Bernier will get a chance to take the net back then.

DarrenDreger: Not certain of Gardiner or Robidas, but Leafs don't expect Robidas to play 82 games. Rest will help keep him healthy.

Sounds like Robidas might be sitting tonight.

This is the new "we're not concerned about year 1."
