Best Anti-Virus and Malware scanners

I feel like in 2014 (almost 2015) you can't really go wrong with any of the known anti-virus programs out there. I doubt any of the big ones are going to have a massive flaw in them. What's important is just combining that protection with smart internet habits.

Probably. At this point, it's more about which is the least annoying and uses the least amount of resources.

I used to use AVG free but switched to Avast last year.  Very happy so far.  Has both free and paid versions. As is typical for a few programs, free is anti-virus and the paid has other features such as firewall and internet privacy (vpn, etc.)

I use a combination of free such as AVG or Avast ...and common sense about what I do with my computer.  It's amazing what a big difference there is between my wife's computer and mine.  I don't let the kids on mine and don't have problems.

When I was running a Windows machine, I used a combination of avast! (free) for real-time antivirus scanning and MalwareBytes (free) for malware/spyware clean up.

Been using a Mac for about seven years or so and never had a virus or malware.

And I started computers with Win 3.1 upto Windows XP and Vista. Hellish days those were. I had to have special firewall software, software that checked which ports I had open (LOL!). software for anti virus (always on the lookout for the latest and best) and then malware too. No wonder I didn't get any actual work done, I was busy making sure my computer was safe for use.

I use Malwarebytes, seems to do the job.

Did you upgrade or just use the free version?  My 'trial' expired this week.

I use the free version, you can't schedule it to scan automatically so you have to be diligent to scan and update the definitions.
