Game Notes
CBJ
-Elvis Merzlikins (16-11-3, 3.05 GAA, .890 Sv%) will likely start for the Blue Jackets
-Columbus is one of many teams currently in a big fight for the 2 wild card spots in the Eastern conference. Ottawa, Montreal and Boston are all 1 points ahead of them while the Rangers and Flyers are 1 point behind
-Zach Werenski has been the teams MVP so far this season. The defenceman leads the team with 51 points in 47 games and is very likely on his way to a first ever Norris nomination
TOR
-Joseph Woll (17-8-0, 2.69 GAA, .907 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs

Woll wasn't there for morning skate. Maintenance Day according to the team.

Teams in the East WildCard race are all fighting for keeps. So tonight against CBJ will be more of that.

Tampa played their backup goalie against the Leafs.... possibley because they wanted to reserve Vasilevskiy for the WildCard game against the Habs the next night...... which the Habs won!

It's like a 8 way battle for 2 spots.

Spare body in case someone hits a rut in warm ups? Reward for some nice work lately? Our scratched forwards are not technically healthy.

Yeah, you're right. Patches was moved to IR to make room for him too. It'd be interesting to see if he'd get into the line-up over Reaves but that's probably unlikely.

It's very stupid: now that the Leafs are in the pole position of the division, the potential wildcard matchups are all teams we had a history of failure against.

And the teams that really should be selling (to us) are just a two week hotstreak away from jumping back into the wild card conversation, so they're more likely to hold.

Yes you are correct. With this parity, it's going to be a sellers market and a 2C/3C or mid-level D is going to be very expensive.

My guess is that it's going to be a lower likelihood Leafs manage a major move this trade deadline (i.e. 2C/3C) or even a mid level D. Unless it's for someone on their roster. But draft picks are depleted....and they need the prospects. And there is almost no cap space so there needs to be someone moved off the books.

I have no expectations of the deadline yielding anything that pushes depth down. Unless someone goes cuckoo for cocoa puffs on Robertson and double retains Clayton Keller or something.

My guess is we trade for someone(s) to raise the floor (probably with Utah).

I thought they'd Woll tonight and save Murray for Ottawa. They still can, and give Woll a longer layoff, but that might disrupt his rhythm.
Woll's stats after 1 day rest aren't the best so I see why they're going with the Beast. Marlies play in California tonight and on a long road trip so that's probably why Murray isn't getting the call.
