So Freddy Andersen is out on conditioning loan tonight:

13.9 Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan.

A Player who is on the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception as set forth in Article 50 may, with his consent, during the term of such Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception (but in no event during the first fourteen (14) calendar days and six (6) NHL Games), be Loaned on a Conditioning Loan (the "Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan") for a period not to exceed up to the longer of six (6) days and three (3) games, solely for the purpose of determining whether the Player is fit to play. If the Club determines that it needs more time to assess the Player's fitness to play, the Club may file a written request with the Commissioner's
Office, with a copy to the NHLPA, in accordance with Exhibit 3 hereof, to extend the Loan for an additional two (2) games.
The Commissioner, upon good cause, may approve the one-time extension. The Commissioner's approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. A Player on a Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception Conditioning Loan will continue to be listed on Injured Reserve and will not count against the Club's 23-man roster limit. The Club's Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception will continue until the Conditioning Loan ends, and his Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and Bonuses will continue to count against the Club's Upper Limit and the Players' Share during such time. The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is placed on a Bona Fide LongTerm Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan. If he has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan to evade Waivers or otherwise to Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take other disciplinary action against the Club as he deems appropriate. A Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Conditioning Loan may be extended on one occasion. This procedure can only be used once during each period of time that the Player is on a Bona Fide Long-Term Injury Exception.

The Marlies play May 6, May 8, May 9 and then have an additional two games on May 11 and May 12 if you factor in the two game extension.  So Andersen is either not going to be fit to play or will have to be activated prior to the end of the season as the Leafs play through May 14th.

I remember when Lou did something like this with Soshnikov. Sosh went down and scored 4 points in 3 games, Lou then had the stint extended to really make sure he wasn't still injured and he ended with 5 points in 5 games while playing top line minutes. When the stint ended the team didn't have any roster space to take him off the IR so they just kept him there until he was traded a few days later. Then St. Louis kept him on the IR for another 9 days.

Wow that?s quite a memory. I can barely recall Soshnikov himself. Lol

I think tonight will be a statement game for the winner .

It?s looking more and more like this will be the Leafs first round matchup. They need to show they can whoop this team! The habs can clinch and show themselves they can beat the Leafs (2 games in a row) if they win.

GO LEAFS GO!

Poehling, who was playing with Laval, debuted with a hat trick against us in 2019 and the shootout winner. I hope he gets well soon.

I woke up this morning to an Athletic notification that the Leafs had lost 4-1 to Ottawa last night.

That was disconcerting.

Bit of a weird looking lineup.

If you ignore the experimentation happening on lines 3/4, it's more or less what we've been trying to run since the start.

2 goals on the first 5 shots against Andersen in his return to game action.
I read both goals were on Marlies turnovers but he's made some good saves too. Either way, no biggie. It's a conditioning stint for a goalie that hasn't played for quite a while. There's a reason he's only playing half the game. I wouldn't put too much on the results of this game. Let's hope he can get comfortable and not hurt himself.
Just to add people that are watching the game are saying how good the Marlies are in giving up great scoring chances lol.

Yeah. The Marlies aren't a good team this season.

His afternoon ended with 12 saves on 14 shots in 30:52 (it was always the plan to only play him for half the game). I don't think him letting in 10 goals or 2 goals or 0 goals would have mattered much to the Leafs. Hopefully he feels good after the game and maybe he can shine a little brighter in the next one.

I saw the goals on him. 1st was a turnover, quick breakin 5 hole. 2nd goal turnover just outside the blueline, guy came in from the wing, D made a terrible play but I think Freddie lost his net a little bit and got beat far side. Made some good saves and his movement side to side looked comfortable. Baby steps for him.
Woll let one in from behind the net...ooops.

Yep.  At this point it?s conditioning and whether he can move.  I think you still start Campbell but hopefully we have a healthy Andersen ready to go in case
