Caps go internal for GM; hire Trotz as coach

I don't know a thing about their new GM other than what I read here:

It will be interesting to see how Trotz gets along with Ovechkin, and vice versa.

Heard a lot of negative reaction with regards to their GM choice.  The owner originally said they'd do with a "new start, fresh pair of eyes" and then hires the guy who's been McPhee's yes man for the last 7 years.  Sounds like something MLSE would do.

From the TSN article:  MacLellan was the Assistant GM for 3 years.  His previous stint was in the management ranks of the AHL affiliate.  Certainly the AHL and NHL management teams interact but to say that this creates a long history of being a 'yes man' seems a little unfair.  I mean name me the last assistant GM who ran around bashing the trades and decisions of his GM?

This could very well be a terrible move for the Capitals but it seems unfair to paint him with the same brush as McPhee simply because he worked underneath him.

Given my first-hand experience working directly as the right-hand man of a company owner/manager, I can tell you it's completely possible to work under someone for many years and have a completely different approach.

So I agree with LK that it's unfair to paint him with the McPhee brush.
