FWIW... I wasn't sure this deserved its own thread, but didn't know where else to put it.

Aren't the Leafs at 50 contracts with one PTO already?

PTOs don't count as contracts but yeah, they would need to unload someone for these guys to get NHL deals with the Leafs.  I'm surprised he couldn't get a contract from another organization.

176 points in 295 games over the last 5 years.  (49 points/82 games)

Giving him a chance to prove his worth to someone else, I imagine. No space for him unless someone is traded. Really, just another warm body to fill out the roster for the earlier exhibition games.

I think Glencross will make the final roster. He was good with helping Calgary's young kids along, could use that solid veteran influence here in Toronto. Interesting that he is another left winger so if he makes the team, someone is going to have to shift over to the right side.

Setoguchi has the leg up being a right winger which is an area where the team is lacking depth.

Colorado cut him from his PTO too, looks like he might be done.

There was definitely no room for him here, but that to me is nuts. He's one season removed from scoring at a 28-goal/82-game pace over 4 seasons.

With the speed of the current nhl game, once you lose even a quarter step you're on your way out. I didn't catch a lot of his play through the preseason but I did catch a part of every game and a few whole games, if a guy with his touted ability can't shine at that camp, with that roster? His last ditch will be as an injury signing or off to some other pro league.

You're right though, it does seem a little nutty.
