A couple questions leading up to this season if I may;

1. Assuming at least one of Malkin or Crosby comes back (I think Malkin is fine) is James Neal a better fantasy option than Grabovski? - G, A, pts only.

2. van Riemsdyk or Patrik Berglund - Same question.

Neal will play with Malkin, who has made a full recovery and should be fine like you said, so I would take him. The Leafs are also rolling three solid lines as opposed to being a one line team + Kessel last season, so Grabovski's production may decline a bit.

Berglund had more points last season but the possibility is definitely there for van Riemsdyk to have a breakout year. We'll see how he handles an increase in ice time and a greater role in Philly, but he is a superb talent and could get anywhere from 50-70+ next season.

I'd be inclined to lean towards Neal over Grabo. If you gave me even odds I'd probably guess that Grabo will score less this year than last and Neal will be a lot more effective than he was with Pittsburgh post-trade.

I'd also go JVR over Berglund.

I think both pairings will be pretty close in points (heck, all 4 players might be pretty close in points), but I'll toss in another vote for Neal/JVR.

Thanks guys... I also notice that Sharp is exclusivley a center @ Yahoo. I still think he'll have similar production either way but that leaves (I'm guessing) Brunette as the LWer on the big line? He's averaged close to 55 points over his last 3 years in Minny and with the shackles off and far superior line-matrs, I think there's a solid chance he hits 60+ in Chicago... Agreed?

I don't know if I'd use Yahoo's fantasy stuff as any sort of indication re: Chicago's plans for how to use their top line. Sharp/Toews/Kane worked pretty well last year and until anybody out of Chicago's camp actually says they're breaking it up I wouldn't invest too heavily in the idea that they will.

Fair enough... Brunette just struck me as kind of a sleeper.

Curious, does it matter how the team, say Chicago, actually uses the player or is he just 'set' as a centre on their list?

I think that he'll definitely have the chance to play with talented players in Chicago. He may fit with Bolland/Hossa on the second line which would work pretty well for his offensive production as well.

The problem is that you have to balance that against what's likely to be a diminished role. He got 255 minutes of PP TOI last year, more than anyone had on the 'Hawks last year. I think it's safe to say he'll drop in their pecking order there.

Is he a decent sleeper? Maybe. I just wouldn't base it on a belief that he'll play on  the top line.

I usually found Leaf players were worth more because fans of their will over-pay.  So trade value wise, I'd go with Grabs. :)

Oh man,

Was it two years ago, at the end of the season, that Sharp had triple-eligibility (LW/C/RW)?

I had him then and he rocked everyone elses faces. Ended up coming within a few PIMs of winning the finals in that league.

Kovalchuk has outscored D. Sedin every year but last one. Am I a loon if I gamble that last year was an anomaly for both players and actually take Kovalchuk in favour of Daniel?

It's definitely worth taking into consideration, but I would take Sedin because he has better linemates and a superior supporting cast around him.

I just think I might be able to catch a bunch of people sleeping in a snake draft that way. When Savard and Heatly left Atlanta, Kovalchuk proved he didn't need much (if any) support. Also, should I be at all concerned about Parise this year to return to form?

Anyone interested in joining a fantasy hockey pool?  It is a league of mostly me and my friends and I have two spots I need to fill.  Very good, active bunch.  Draft is sunday the 25th at 3:00pm EST.

Hiller stopped 37 of 39 shots in a win over the Kings on Tuesday.
Recommendation: Aside from Cam Ward, Hiller may be the league's biggest disappointment in goal over the first third of the season. With a new coach in town, the hope is that this is the beginning of a return to form for Hiller.

My other goalie in my league is Cam Ward  :'(

Seriously. The two worst starting goalies in the game right now.
