Game Notes

MTL
?Price (16-25-7, 3.09 GAA, .901 Sv%) will start for the Canadiens
?Price's .901 save percentage will be the worst of his career. He hasn't won back-to-back games in 2 months, going 3-11-5 with a .885 Sv% since then
?Kerby "I used to be Toronto's 18th best forward but now I'm Montreal's top prospect" Rychel has a goal in 3 games with the Habs
?Montreal's leading scorer is Gallagher with 53 points in 81 games. The Leafs have 5 forwards with more points, plus 2 defencemen within 2-3 points

TOR
?Andersen (37-21-5, 2.82 GAA, .917 Sv%) will start for the Leafs
?No word yet on if the Leafs will be looking to ice their playoff roster or if they'll be subbing in their healthy scratches to get a few regulars some rest
?No update yet on Dermott's status either. Babcock said earlier in the week that Dermott would probably play against Montreal
?Matthews has points in all 8 games he's played since returning from injury, scoring 5 goals and adding 6 assists during that span

Whatever festiveness might have been in the crowd tonight will be gone.

What horrible, horrible news out of Saskatchewan.

The whole of Saskatchewan and its neighbouring hockey communities is essentially one geographically huge small town. Everybody knows everyone by a handful of degrees and everyone knows at least someone who has ever ridden a team bus. This hurts a lot.

This probably needs its own space, but I don't know what to say.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families who have lost love ones. And to all the people of Saskatchewan who I know are all part of this family. Just utterly tragic.

Ron McLean and Sheldon Kennedy handled that intro to the national telecast beautifully.  What dignity.  Well done.

As a Father, I grieve. As a hockey coach, I grieve some more.

My heartfelt condolences to everyone involved with the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team!

Tough to be too focused on wins and losses and the like tonight. The whole night is probably going to be pretty somber.

If that translates to.a boring game where nobody on the Leafs gets injured regardless of the score I'll take it.

I pretty much just want a win so Raycroft loses his "most wins in a season as a Leaf" record.

Yes.

It's good to see Dermott back, looking none the worse.

2 stray thoughts:

1. Kapanen is verging on untouchable for me. Obviously that's conditional but I think he's going to be a very important piece for next year in large part because:

2. When JVR isn't scoring like his hair is on fire that 3rd line looks pretty toothless.

That pass. That snap.

Mild adjustment on that play; normally when Nylander makes an approach down to the circles, Matthews mirrors on his wing. This time, Matthews shaded high in a quieter space. Nylander has been slinging it all night and sold that shot beautifully.

I know all coaches are smarter than I am but if I'm setting up a kill against the Leafs I probably have a guy covering Matthews instead of Komarov.

Haha yeah, but they also say the same about Laine, and Ovechkin, and Stamkos, and Kucherov. Matthews and Nylander are both hanging very high and using that distance to gain speed on their approach.

You mean not cover "Leo the Snipe"???

New Jersey did something really effective last game against our PP. once Marner received a pass, they threw the closest guy at him super aggressively so that there was no chance to set up after they gained the zone. Against Boston, that will be even more dangerous as they?ve got an actual scoring threat Marchand doing that.
