Horachek won't be back with the Panthers

Darcy Horachek will not be back as head coach for the Panthers next year.  He replaced Kevin Dineen in November and served as interim coach until the end of the year.

Given what I've seen out of the new ownership group there I'd be very surprised if they didn't make a big play for a big name coach.

Their last three coaches all were never head coaches in the NHL before taking the role with Florida. And Tallon specifically said today that they were looking for somebody with experience. Laviolette would seem to make sense here, but Poile's also probably been calling him about Nashville given their USA Hockey connection.

Yeah, but I think it's more than that. I think that as they try to negotiate a more favouraable lease Viola is going to be really pushing hard for the Panthers to not be seen as a sad-sack second tier organization and I think, part of that, will be a coaching hire that makes headlines. Were I a betting man I'd guess a major logo/uniform redesign is coming as well.

He also was very complimentary of Trotz.

I know where you were going with that thought, but it's Peter, not Darcy.

I wonder if there's room for him in the Leafs org.  His record didn't show it but he seemed to do a good job in getting a bunch of sad sacks to compete.
