Kadri v.s. Holland

Injuries made Nonnis make a deal for Holland.  And I think it's worked out well.  Although it's a small sample size, Holland has done pretty good.  Is Holland making a case to push himself above Kadri in the depth chart?

I don't think so, not yet anyways, he has been performing well, but I think at this rate if he keeps it going, he is a perfect third line center that can fill in on the top 2 lines if needed for short periods of time.

As it sits now Holland would be a third line centre, at least until Bolland returns. After that, the a Leafs have a good problem of having too many centers. I think Kadri is redundant myself, already having a smallish, speedy scoring forward in Kessel. I'd be looking to trade Nazem for a Paul Stastny (or similar) or a high quality, mobile, stay-at-home D man.

Ideally, the Leafs centre position would look something like this...

1) Stastny
2) Bozak
3) Holland/Bolland
4) McClement

Well, Bolland does provide some much needed veteran presence. When you look at the key players on this roster, they're still very young and inexperienced. Lupul and Phaneuf are really the only veterans in key positions on this team right now.

Yeah, for now, Holland is replacing Bolland and should be on the 3rd line.  After Bolland comes back, though, it'll be an interesting predicament.

I like Bolland's game a lot, but next year you'll have decide whether you keep Bolland at 3.8-4.5 million a season, or re-sign Holland at between 900k-1.5 million.

I'm not saying that Holland is the same type of player, or that he is currently bringing what Bolland does, but with cap increases to Phaneuf and Kessel next season, Nonis has some decisions to make going forward. Liles to anywhere seems like a no-brainer, but I thought that this off-season.

You are right, Holland spells the end of Bolland and the savings sunk into trying to sure up the back end D.  Bolland and Franson may both be on their way out and may be dealt at the deadline even if the Leafs are in a playoff spot.  It isn't because they are not good players, it is because they are redundant and will be too expensive to retain.

Giving up Kadri for Stastny is a little off to me, I'd much rather see Bozak leave and keep Kadri while attempting to get Stastny cheaper/as an ufa ( perhaps involving Bozak, perhaps not but if the trade route is a must... ). I think the Leafs would also benefit from keeping both Holland and Bolland, can't have too much centre depth.

Now, perhaps there's a great deal to be made involving Kadri in another direction that satisfies some lineup issues, I haven't really thought about what they could get in a deal/package for him, etc..

Maybe Evander Kane?

JvR/ Statsny/ Kessel
Kane/ Bozak/ Lupul
Raymond/ Holland/ Clarkson
D'Amigo/ McClement/ Biggs
Orr

I don't think we'd have the money cap space for that, but it would give the Leafs some grit on lines 2-4.

Let's go crazy. Send Kadri with Gardiner and Reimer to the Isles for Tavares and one of their young goalies.  Boom, #1 franchise centre!

Please not Evander Kane, even if it meant the annoying Kane fanboy that sits in front of me at every Jets game would give up his season tickets, Kane's ego is too big and his drive doesn't seem to be there. That could be based on playing in Winnipeg, but I wouldn't want to give up too much for him right now, he doesn't seem like a team player at this point in his career and is too much of a question mark at the moment.

I think Winnipeg would be more willing to trade Kane, than Long Island would be Tavares. Getting Tavares would be nice, but I don't think you could put together a good enough package.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I think it's his environment that has him playing like he is right now. I don't think he gets along with the coach at all. He's a really good player when he's on, I think he just needs a change of scenery.

That may be the case, Noel and him don't get along I am pretty sure. A change of scenery could help, but I'd hate to give up Kadri + for him and Kane plays the same here, or gets worse.

From what I have been seeing this year, I would take Holland. Kadri  takes to many games off, and I don't see much drive in him any more. Its not that I don't think he has it or can bring it, but if I was playing for the big pay day and was on my bridge, I would go all out, something he is not doing. Now as for Holland, I think we have a good one in him, a steal by our GM. The only problem is RC, why the heck is Holland not on the first line, and Kadri on the 2nd where he belongs. But I guess for a guy who still puts dead weight on our fourth line for two mins a game, so the other three lines fall a step behind the other teams is beyond me. So I do like Holland, and I think  he should be up on the top line.

Oh good, I was wondering when some would be advocating selling Kadri low, and picking up a franchise centre in the transaction.
