Game Notes

LA
?Quick (2-6-0, 4.55 GAA, .858 Sv%) will likely start for the Kings
?Quick posted a 3.38 GAA and .888 Sv% in 46 appearances last season. He has 3 years left after this season on the 10-year contract he signed back in 2012
?That's former Leafs draft pick Carl Grundstrom on LA's top line. Grundstrom's had a weird start to the season. He was a healthy scratch in 6 of LA's first 7 games. He was then sent to their AHL team where he put up 5 goals and 7 points in 4 games. He was recalled about a week ago and has played back to back games on the Kopitar line. In 3 games this season he has 0 goals and 2 assists
?Sean Durzi, the other Leafs prospects the Kings received in the Muzzin trade, is playing on their AHL team. He has 0 points in just 3 games. He's missed time with an upper body injury

TOR
?Andersen (7-2-2, 3.00 GAA, .904 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Tavares is actually expected to return to the line-up after missing the past 7 games with a finger injury
?Muzzin is also expected to return to the line-up after missing Saturday's game. He'll be playing against his former team for the first time since the Leafs acquired him

Injuries

Code:

?John Tavares - Finger - Probable Tuesday
?Jake Muzzin - Lower Body - Probable Tuesday
?Zach Hyman - Knee - Injured Reserve

K... what is happening

This would be the 30th day on the Leafs roster for Petan since clearing waivers to start the season. So he'll require waivers again if/when they want to re-assign him back to the Marlies.

Yeah, the Leafs front office has knowingly reduced asset flexibility for...?

Good guy Dubas lets Petan's waiver requirement expire so that he gets an NHL opportunity?

That's kinda the only thing I can see here. Maybe Petan/his agent have been pushing Dubas to trade him but nobody's interested. Dubas does this to show that he's willing to give Petan a chance with another NHL team, but if nobody takes him on waivers again he needs to realize where his career is at right now and keep toughing it out in the AHL.

Off the top of my head, he could probably find a reasonable third line + role with...
Ottawa, Detroit, Minnesota, LA, Dallas, Edmonton, Florida

I was looking through these teams' line-ups and honestly you're probably being generous there. The first 4 all have guys like Petan on their 3rd lines already and then bigger/more typical 4th line players on their 4th lines. So that's basically the same situation that he's in here. Since we have LA's line-up right in front of us I'm sure the Kings aren't just going to give Iafallo the boot for Petan, and Clifford on their 4th line is a mainstay.

Edmonton, yeah. I mean we all said from the start of the season they'd be idiots for not claiming somebody on waivers who could help them score and that's still true today.

Then I got to Florida. What on earth is happening there? Brian Boyle is currently listed as their 2C and Mark "I'm a defenceman" Pysyk is their 3RW. Is Florida ok?

If any of this is true I'd say Dubas needs to do a hell of a lot less worrying about the career of a guy who will likely never be more than AHLer and more about, you know, that fact that his team isn't all that wonderful right now.

The decision to call up Petan must have taken up like 60 seconds of Dubas' day.

I don't get the Timashov removal at all. One of the few guys that plays with gusto every night, always on the hustle, makes good defensive plays with an offensive upside.

Nik Petan, sorry, but an AHL plug, unless they are showcasing him.

Just a little more time is all we're asking for
Cause just a little more time could open closing doors
Just a little uncertainty can bring you down
And nobody wants to know you now
And nobody wants to show you how
So if you're lost and on your own
You can never surrender
And if your path won't lead you home
You can never surrender
And when the night is cold and dark
You can see, you can see light
Cause no one can take away your right
To fight and never surrender
