Leafs acquire goalie Michael Hutchinson

Even if Anderen's injury is incredibly minor, this was a much needed trade. The Marlies' goalies collectively had a 0.873 save percentage. Hutchinson has NHL experience (106 games) and coming into this season has always had solid AHL numbers. He only has a .906 Sv% this season but that's just in 8 games. He'll be able to stabilize the Marlies' goaltending and provide a start or two if needed in the NHL.

Thanks for the clean up, Carlton!

Hutch was with the Jets for a long time; he's a monster in the AHL, but sort of Paul Mauricey in the NHL. This is good for the Marlies.

Also fun to have a goalie that plays goofy in net (right glove).

He's on a 1-year, $1.3mil AAV contract. So $275,000 will still remain on the Leafs cap even if he's in the AHL. But they've got plenty of cap space so that won't be an issue.

As he was already sent down successfully by the Panthers, Hutchinson reports directly to the Marlies.

Just as a smeared out point of reference for value purposes:
Leafs' 5th rounders in the past 11 years | top 3 picks in that round by games played*

2008: Greg Pateryn, Joel Champagne, Jerome Flaake | Matt Martin(!), Matt Calvert, Mark Borowiecki
2009: Eric Knodel | Marcus Kruger, Mike Hoffman, Gabriel Borque
2010: Sam Carrick | Brendan Gallagher, John Klingberg, Michael Ferland (HM to Zach Hyman)
2011: Tony Cameranesi | Andrew Shaw, Fredrik Claesson, Nikita Nesterov
2012: Dominic Toninato | Ben Hutton, Colin Miller, Connor Hellebuyck (HM to Connor Carrick by 1 game)
2013: Fabrice Herzog | Will Butcher
2014: Dakota Joshua | Gustav Forsling, Anton Lindholm, Oskar Lindblom
2015: Dymytro Timashov | Dominik Simon
2016: Vladimir Bobylev | Max Lajoie
2017: Fedor Gordeev | Sebastian Aho (NYI D)
2018: Filip Kral

Greg Pateryn is the only one of our picks at this depth that is still playing in the NHL. Obviously not for us, as we moved him as a prospect for Mikael Grabovski.
* Up to 2013, I was looking for 100+ games; after that I'm looking for actually still in the NHL

I remember this guy playing for Winnipeg, decent depth trade for the Marlies to hopefully stabilize the goaltending down there. Will help all the prospects play without fear of every shot going in.

or does it signal a longer term injury for Freddo, perhaps Kassa will be around longer than we think

If Andersen is out for anything longer than this one game then Kaskisuo will be going back to the Marlies and Hutchinson will be called up.

Yeah Kaskisuo has been pretty brutal on the Marlies there's no way they'd trust him in the NHL
