Line-up Notes
TOR
?Leafs kick off a three-game Western road trip by revisiting the McDavid v Matthews non-story
?Nylander returns to the lineup after sitting for an undisclosed upper-body injury suffered in practice prior to Saturday's game
?Babcock has been looking to get Soshnikov more minutes, and Saturday's game was an 'outstanding' enough performance for the coach to keep the most annoying line together
?Matt Martin is on fire, putting his 2-game goal scoring streak on the line. Oh yeah, Matthews too.

EDM
?Edmonton is licking its wounds after losing both games of the home-and-home to the Arizona Coyotes
?Connor McDavid is riding a 5 game point streak since coming out of a protracted 10-game goal-scoring slump, including the hat trick to break the slump (5G/5A in last 5)
?Edmonton is still The Worst

Superb effort!

The equivalent of a back-checking forward chipping the puck out of the defensive zone when it's shot by a defenseman against the side-boards from behind the net.

I laughed, I cried, I consumed a hot-pocket. CtB better watch out, his $0-per-hour volunteer position could very well be in jeopardy...

Thanks! I just copied Carlton as much as possible.

The Leafs lineup is from practice yesterday and it's a bit weird because Nylander was easing back in. He has played well with Ben Smith before on the Marlies, but I'm not expecting this to be the game time lineup. I have ideas about what it should be, but Babcock doesn't care how I feel.

To build a little off the "Edmonton is the worst" manifesto I'd just like to throw in a little dislike for just how much of a shill HNIC and Ron MacLean in particular have become for the NHL. In the discussion re: Calgary potentially getting a new building with civic money there wasn't even a brief mention of "Hey, should a small city be giving a private enterprise hundreds of millions of dollars a year when it doesn't create much in the way of employment or economic growth?". In fact MacLean even went out of his way to say they weren't criticizing the mayor of Calgary for his reluctance, the implication being because they knew he'd give the Flames what they wanted eventually.

I know Rogers has a cozy relationship with the NHL and expecting them to shine too harsh a light on the scam that is public arena financing is a lot to ask but I can't help but think that a CBC broadcast would have at least raised the question.

I agree with your point, but I don't think it's a CBC show anymore. It's a Sportsnet show that CBC airs on their network once a week, I doubt they have any creative control.

As you said Sportsnet is deep in bed with the NHL and will never rock the boat.

Mark Fayne ($3.625M AAV until 2018), who finally got into the lineup on Oct 19th and managed 2:27 minutes of ice time before landing on the IR, has apparently been waived.

In other news, the Oiler's WOWY with respect to McDavid is...

Well, yeah. That's why I said I think the CBC would have done something different.

My bad, I should not be posting before my first cup of coffee. ;D

Pitlick subbing in on the top line. I remain baffled by his name.

Here we go, real lineup... what?!

I like that Nylander is playing centre.

With anchors tied around his skates :) I think he'll be fine (makes Edmonton think twice about coasting against the 4th line). He'll get PP time in any case.
