Leafs sign Hunwick

The Leafs with the biggest signing of the free agency period.  A two-year deal.

jonasTSN1050: Hunwick had positive possession stats last year in New York (53% Corsi). Averaged 16 minutes per game.

Right now he would probably only be #6 or 7 on the Leafs defence depth, wouldn't he?

jonasTSN1050: Leafs mix on defence right now: Phaneuf, Gardiner, Rielly, Polak, Robidas, Marincin, Erixon, Hunwick.

jonasTSN1050: Leafs also have Stuart Percy, Petter Granberg, T.J. Brennan and Viktor Loov as deeper options on defence.

I imagine some guys will be moved out, but he's a 3rd pairing guy, yeah.

Hunwick - "I signed in Toronto to play with Mike Babock"

So that's two guys who basically said that huh (and Parenteau).

Yeah, but as always, nobody is going to say "I chose to sign with this bottom feeder because they offered me the most money" even if it's true.

I agree with that but Hunwick really went out of his way to talk about working under Babcock and tyring to further his game.  I get that he's a guy pushing 30 and he's a bottom pairing guy but having someone say it period is nice.  You didn't really have people coming to questionable Toronto teams praising the tutelage of Wilson/Carlyle.

I'll take those little positives when I can get them.
