I'm not convinced that either of these guys are real. I'm pretty sure Eastside Hockey Manager just randomly generated some hockey player-ish names.

I haven't kept up with the Wild, but their second and third D pairings look like quite a dropoff after Suter/Brodin.

Are we going to talk about Kadri?  1 point in the last 5 games, and he's running out of time to turn the season around for himself.

Sure. I'll start the conversation.

I really like how Kadri is putting up relatively good possession numbers while, at the same time, not actually scoring the goals that would mess up the tank.

I also enjoy that Kadri is playing well and getting involved in the play at both ends of the ice, despite not having a lot of success in putting the puck in the net.

I also enjoy Kadri drawing penalties for UFA tradebait like Parenteau, etc. to capitalize and increase their trade values.

He's also keeping the price of his next contract down. Pretty big sacrifice from the guy.

Nice to see the face-off numbers above 50% too.

Yesterday I found out that the Leafs once had a player named Dave Smedsmo. Now THAT sounds made up.

All (semi-) humorous points re Kadri well and good but he does need to start scoring or else he does begin to look floppish.

Aside from the Leafs looking to trade Kadri, why would we care what he looks like as opposed to what his actual value is?

Well, I think most fans care whether a #7 pick who was chosen for his offensive skills pans out or not.

Only to people who judge players solely by their point totals. And I think even most of the casual fans have seen enough to not feel like he's a failure. It's not like he's been invisible out there.

You guys are really too much sometimes.  If any of you want to seriously maintain that Kadri is meeting the expectations that came when he was chosen, have at it, but I'm not going to get in a 3-way cage match to hash through whether all his other play makes up for his almost complete lack of goal-scoring so far this year.  Like I said, if he doesn't step it up soon, yes, he begins to look like a big disappointment.  Not a full-on flop, but almost there.

The point of the analytics movement was to show that raw point totals don't really tell a complete picture due to the incredible amount of luck that determines whether a shot goes in or not. By all counts of controllable metrics (possession, primarily; face-offs), Kadri is doing very well. It's the uncontrollable side of the statsheet that is not as pretty. I'd start worrying only if Kadri wasn't generating chances.
