Quite the pass by Carrick to spring Kadri.
Too bad Kadri tried to stickhandle it into the net.

Meh, nothing wrong with trying the deke. What babcock won't like is the cough up he made right after to give the wings the 2 on 1.

Definitely not a problem going for the deke, since he's better at it than shooting. Mrazek made a great play reading the deke the whole way.

Nylander reminds me a lot of Kadri in his early seasons. Obviously skilled but raw in the defensive zone and gets knocked off the puck easily. Nylander is a better skater though (and on faceoffs so far), the rest is just gaining strength and experience; it'll come.

First big test, as noted by the SN commentators: Babcock letting Nylander's line get matched up against Zetterberg.

He's doing okay so far. Very heady player.

Also: Kadri's line gets Datsyuk, i.e. Soshnikov gets to meet his hero.

Nylander putting on a possession clinic in the Detroit zone. Those nasty behind-the-back forward passes...

I guess it's similar to a 'kicking motion'.

According to Rule 78.5 (i) "Apparent goals shall be disallowed when the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick."

I guess any forward motion of any body part qualifies under that broad rule. I could have sworn I've seen similar goals count in the past.

Thanks, McGarnagle. I was just about to post that too.
If Smith had just skated directly to the net and the puck fell in accordingly with the shoulder movement, it'd have counted.
