Lupul facing possible suspension (edit: Fined $10k)

Someone should have cross checked Shanahan in the old timer game, he loves suspending Leafs this season.

It wan't that bad.  A fine or maybe one game at most, but you know how these things go.  I'd almost believe it was purely innocent, but I suspect it was misplaced retaliation for the hit he took to the head (partially, anyway) from Kindl seconds earlier.

22 regular season suspensions
7 preseason suspensions

Maple Leafs - 6 suspensions (1 preseason only)
Vancouver - 3 suspensions (1 preseason only)
Tampa - 2 suspensions (1 preseason only)
Buffalo - 2 suspensions
Pittsburgh - 2 suspensions
Phoenix - 2 suspensions

I can completely understand if Lupul gets a game given the repeat offender status and everything, but I have a very hard time believing that the Leafs have committed 4+ more suspendable infractions than any other team in the league this year and 1/5 of all suspendable acts by the league.

A fine at most I would say. The hit was on the shoulder and rode up to the neck, any suspension would be the wrong call. Watch it before you judge it people.

Can you imagine an ex-Leaf judging a Detroit Redwing on a hit?  Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest?  Especially with the two of them so close in the standings.  Especially if that ex-Leaf probably still had friendships with the ownership?

Or a former Red Wing coach deciding what is a goal and what isn't?

If Lupul gets a suspension for rhat his it will be rediculous. When Schenn was driven into the boards by a blatant charge, when Getzlaf was cross checked and injured into the boards and nothing. In neither case was a hearing even held. When the crosscheck came out of a battle for the puck and Lupuls stick road up off Eaves shoulder there needs to be some consistency. Maybe Shanahan is showing a bias and needs to be removed. There needs to be some consistency in his decisions.Set a standard and hold to that.

I like Lupul and we need him bad but it was a dirty cross check and he should be suspended. If an opposing player hurt one of ours like that we would be livid

Yep.

Called it during the game that he'd get a suspension. Haven't seen it since. Was definitely a reaction to getting hit to his head but he got the wrong guy. Thought it was aimed at shoulder but unfortunately he got head.

Yeah. It was stupid and didn't come from anything related to getting the puck or improving his team's chances at getting the puck. It was retaliatory, dangerous and unnecessarily aggressive.

Wow.  This actually seems fairly consistent IMO.  The NHL doesn't suspend crosschecks to the head very well.

I'm glad though.  I'm going to the game tomorrow so I would much rather see Lupul play.
