Maple Leafs? ACC experience gets overhaul for opening night

This is probably long overdue.  Maybe it will eventually lead to a more raucous sounding arena more reflective of the passion of the fanbase: http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2014/10/06/maple_leafs_acc_experience_gets_overhaul_for_opening_night.html

about time...can't wait for the over the ice projection screens...the cleaveland cavs have one and they do some amazing things with it.

They say higher production value, but we've also seen MLSE's production value on the LeafsTV.  I'm not sure how cutting things like the Goalie race changes the atmosphere in the game though.

I've been calling for the Leafs to get rid of the intermission gimmicks for the longest time, and instead focusing just on hockey and pushing fans into the concourses.  So glad this has finally been recognized and rectified.  No need to treat this hockey crazed market as a non-traditional one.

Less sponsorship the better.  It's annoying as heck seeing the amount of sponsorship being blasted right in your face.  The play is on and then a bright red flash comes across your eyes because a Scotiabank ad is being displayed around the rings of the rink.  It has gotten to the point where it's as if I paid to go to a sponsorship convention and a hockey game broke out.

Thanks to Shanny, these changes got done:

(From the article):
The changes were inspired by Brendan Shanahan, the Leafs? new president, who is hoping to build a true home-ice advantage.

...just as Shanahan added some of the game?s brightest young minds to the front office in Kyle Dubas and Brandon Pridham, the Leafs pursued the NHL?s best in-game operations people and brought in Steve Edgar, formerly Calgary?s assistant manager of game-ops. The Flames have been voted the best in that area by their peers for three years in a row.

This could be a very good thing. Maybe going to a Leaf game won't be like being at a business meeting anymore.

Just watched the video and was awesome, and not even seeing the show with the 3-D effect.
May make me mortgage the house and go down and see a game.

In preseason they had a few interesting things.
First, in our section, Rob Ray and Peter Ing came out to throw T-shirts.
Ray then took off his jersey and gave it to a fan.

Then, staff came around giving tickets away to someone going crazy with fan spirit.  They chose a guy with a young kid which was nice.

Everyone enjoys the kiss-cam.  They focused on an older couple but they wouldn't kiss.  Finally the lady, you could read her lips, said "he's my brother".

Good times!

Just a correction, it was actually former Leaf Brad May, not Rob Ray, that was part of that.

They had a bunch of former Leafs doing that at that game.

Ah, that makes sense.  I thought it was a Buffalo thing why he was there.
