YES! My favourite Leaf of all time. Thought he'd come after Gilmour and Clark, two guys I question whether they should even be on Legend's Row (I say they will be based on how much they are loved).

Boy do I miss seeing Mats in a Leafs' uniform. For me, no player has come anywhere close since him where you can gravitate to and love.

A young Mats is exactly one of the missing pieces right now..So glad he is going to be on the Row. So well deserving... Now it's time for Keon.... Bravo Mats!!!!!

absolutely.....

Nobody deserves it more in my opinion. Certainly the greatest Leaf of the era that I was a fan.

I just watched the video posted here too. I don't know if that was actually the first Mats was hearing about it but his reaction was priceless. So happy for the guy. I'm not one to care about bringing back alumni into team/management jobs but Mats could do literally whatever he wanted in this organization as far as I'm concerned.

I'm actually not sure that those two will make the cut (and I'm with you that they probably shouldn't). Sundin brings the total to 7 players (with Kennedy, Bower, Sittler, Salming, Apps, Armstrong). Regardless of their squabbles you have to think that Keon is an absolute lock. That's 8. He was obviously welllllllll before my time but Charlie Conacher is generally considered one of the greatest Leafs of all-time, so that would make it 9. The original plan was to have only 10 spots with 1 being left open for a future Leaf (maybe Marner standing on Nylander's shoulders?). I'm sure that they had a general idea who they would be picking when this all started, and while they could always expand from the original plan if Gilmour and Clark were under serious consideration they would have probably just announced that there would be 12 spots to start.

I mean, maybe. He's such a lock though that the fact that he hasn't been named already leads me to think there's a very good chance that they've offered and he's not interested.

Also, with Conacher, if I were a betting man I'd say the Leafs probably had one slot for someone from that far back and they gave it to Apps. I think Horton is/should be the next guy.

Absolutely. I loved his reaction! Man I miss the big guy so much!

Here's a full clip about Sundin joining Legend's Row: http://video.mapleleafs.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=833741&catid=802

Includes that clip of him finding out about it, an awesome tribute video, and him talking about it at the Fan Fest yesterday.

Even though I agree with Mats Sundin getting a spot on legend's row, I don't get the whole, "Gilmour and Clark not worthy of the honour."

Doug Gilmour still holds the record for most points in a season by any Leaf ever and is the last one to ever win hardware for the team with the Selke trophy. How does that not fit into the definition of 'legend'?.............Mats never did that in all the extended time he was here.

I remember when Wendel Clark was drafted. My brother still has the newspaper clipping of the day. To say that what he brought to a fan base that had absolutely ZERO to cheer about for years, is now suddenly worth less than what Mats did is quite frankly..........just stupid.

I'm not bringing this up to knock Mats Sundin as I think he deserves what was given to him but don't tell me or anyone who's actually watched this team a little longer than some of you, that he was more deserving than others, or that those others aren't deserving, because of your criteria.

Your criteria, to say the least, is way off and I'm sure Mats himself would agree with that.

I also feel that Clark deserves a spot, though I'm not sure if that's because he is truly a legend, or just a legend to me when I was at an age when my hockey hero's meant everything.

Gilmour had a few historic seasons for the Leafs, but IMO that does not compare at all with being the team's all-time leader in goals and points.

Not every player you could conceivably call a legend will get a statue, or else I'd be arguing that Felix Potvin should get one based on the number of people my age who had Potvin posters on their walls.

That's my feeling with Wendal Clark. I get what he means to this organization and what he meant to kids around my age but I'm not sure if that equals an all time Legend or just a legend in my own eyes.

If they're only planning 10 statues, at some point, someone is going to get left off. The team has a 100 year history with some fantastic hockey players being part of it. It's hard to fit them all.
