Matt Martin traded to the Islanders

Well.  We got a goalie for the Growlers for him, so as dumb as Lou is for taking on Martin's contract, its not like he paid much of a price.

McAdam is a 23-year old ECHL goalie. I thought we might have been able to nab a pick for Martin but this is still obviously fine.

Anything that didn't result in us offering anything more to move Martin is a win.
Martin getting to get married back home on the Island is a win for him and his fiancee. This also guarantees Komarov is on line 2 or 3 now.

If I were Dubas (or which AGM was overseeing this), I'd have just pulled the list of offers together and let Martin choose his destination, barring a huge offer.

We lose a contract tho....low hit but still 2+mill

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Martin's preference played a role here.

Lou's gonna Lou!

As much as I would have preferred a pick, getting a decent one would have probably required some cap retention.

I forgot the Leafs re-signed Kaskisuo as well already, so this gives the Leafs 6 goalies on NHL contracts. Probably safe to say they don't expect one of McBackup/Sparks/Pickard to be here come opening night (I mean it was safe to say that before the trade too though).

I kind of thought McBackup would head to the Island.

Same. Especially since they don't have a back-up goalie at all right now. Maybe they have offers in on one of the guys still available (Lehner/Mason/Lehtonen) and McBackup is their... backup.

I was thinking the same, or maybe Sparks goes. He might be worth more. Pickard isn't waiver exempt anymore so maybe he gets the back up job? Who knows what Dubas is thinking.

Leo Komarov - 3
Andrew Ladd - 5.5
Cal Clutterbuck - 3.5
Casey Cizikas - 3.35
Valterri Filppula - 2.75
Matt Martin - 2.5

This may have actually been Lou's best transaction as GM of the Islanders.

Well... if I'm the GM on the Island, after losing Tavares, I'm looking at tanking for a season or two anyways.  Martin's contract will help keep them above the floor if they trade guys like Eberle or Lee for future assets.  Really, short contracts to Val and Kunhackel are acceptable.  Don't want really young guys in the lineup when they aren't ready.  Komarov's deal is just dumb, no matter how you slice it.
