Official meeting place of the Kadri Cadre

As I look down the board I see we have threads on many individual players.  There are threads on interesting prospects, like Jake Gardiner, and threads on frustrating flops, like Mike Komisarek.  There are threads on guys nobody ever heard of until last week, like Mike Kostka.  There's even a thread devoted entirely to Code-Red Franson, for God's sake.

Is it too much to ask that there be a similar thread on Nazem Kadri?  I knew you'd agree!

I propose we divide the discussion into several categories:

1.  Chat about how he's going to win the Rocket.
2.  Chat about why he's sooo not going to get traded for Luongo.
3.  Chat about other Leaf greats who were named "Nazem," like Nazem Keon, Nazem Sittler, Nazem Gilmour, etc.  Is it JUST a coincidence???
4.  Chat about why he wears #43.  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
5.  All other Kadrivian chat.

To me, he's the most exciting player on the team.  I think he's here to stay this time, and good on him.

Yes, I'd like to discuss our demonym. I think Kadrivian should be discussed along with Kadrite, Kadrian and the IllumiNazi.

Admittedly, we'll have to be careful about the pronunciation of that last one.

Threads like this make me miss Shayne.

On a slightly related note, you know what I hate?  When certain announcers pronounce 'Kadri' "Kadray".

I also hate Sidney Crosby.

I don't want to start anointing him any sort of savior. He is still a kid learning how to play against men in the NHL. That being said, he has looked far more impressive than ever before.

It is obvious that he doesn't like Wilson from all the praise he has for Carlyle whenever he gets a chance to spout off about it. Wilson was not a great motivator and I think Carlyle is a better coach and indeed has been a catalyst for Kadri resurgence. With that being said, Kadri has to realize that he was not the player in past camps and NHL games that he is now. Wilson could not trust him, and therefore was reluctant to give him too much opportunity.

Kadri has a chance to be a great player. He clearly needs to gain humility and get rid of his ego. The amount of times he will answer a general reporters question about the team and turn the subject to instead speaking about himself shows me a guy who is still very self-absorbed.

He is however still very young (I was pretty egotistical at the same age), and has to have a bit of swagger to keep having faith in himself.  It's a process, but we may be seeing the kid come of age.

Reminds me a bit of Mike Ribeiro the way he plays, although Ribeiro is way more of a weasel.

He wears 43 because he'll average 43 goals per season over his 17 year career. Finishes with 731 career goals.

He was pretty invisible tonight.  :-\

Jeez, go out of your way to say nice things about a guy and then he disappears.  Makes you think twice about ever saying anything positive.

Don't you mean Sidnay Crosbay.

He's been doing a great job with both the Marlies and the Leafs, last season and this one. Still a few risky plays that dont go perfectly but when he shoots at the net the puck almost always ends up in at the end of the play. Keep it up Naz!! (NHL13 pronounces his name Nazeem) . sidenote -  i must have done something to piss off potvin29 i see im on your ignore list :)

It is hard not to be pleased with his and Frattin's play.  Their production is certainly far higher this year than anyone could have expected.

I do notice that a fair number of Kadri's passes do not connect with the intended target or are not right on the tape of the intended target.  I'm thinking of the drop passes to no one or the offensive zone or break-out passes that miss their target.  It would seem that an elite offensive player would be able to connect on a higher percentage of their passes.  Obviously Kadri has incredible individual stick moves and personal dexterity, but sometimes I wonder if he is missing some vision or forethought or wherewithal or something that will make him that much better at retaining possession.  Perhaps that's something he can improve on as he continues to get more comfortable with NHL-level speed.

I have to disagree with that.  Apart from the odd dropped pass (which happens to any offensive player - Lupul is notorious for that stuff) I would say he's extremely adept at maintaining possession in tight places, using the cut-back play and finding a high guy, protecting the puck, or making some kind of creative pass.  Even when the passes don't connect, the puck ends up in an area where the play can continue (a good chunk of his assists have happened on broken-type plays).  Compare that with Kessel, who lacks the same vision and gives the puck up pretty constantly on rushes as a result, either by taking a bad shot or trying to stickhandle through guys with no chance of success.

Kessel has quite good vision out there, makes a number of excellent passes per game.  He doesn't lack 'vision', he just doesn't have the same deking capabilities of someone like Kadri, and he's also a winger playing with a much more confined area of the ice than Kadri is as C.  That is good for Kadri to be at C where he has more freedom on the ice, but he still makes a number of glaring turnovers off passes in his own end.  Doesn't bother me so much, it's to be expected, but it's too much to say even when he doesn't connect on passes they end up in good spots - he makes his share of bad turnovers like most of them.

I am seeing to many Lone Ranger rushes by Kadri, he needs players that are just as creative, and full of energy as he has been.
