McDavid first game at the ACC as an Oiler...

Let's hope Andersen can give an Anderson inspired performance!

GO LEAFS GO!!!

I saw this posted on twitter yesterday:

The red blocks are an Edmonton Oiler without Connor McDavid, the blue square is when they are playing with Connor McDavid. The closer you are to the top-right of the graph the better your performing, the closer to the bottom-left the worse. Connor McDavid is literally dragging the Edmonton Oilers to respectability.

McDavid puts the WOW in WOWY.  :)

The Oilers as a team are also below 50% in shot attempts and have one of the highest PDO's in the league. It'll be interesting to see how they finish, especially since their media have already started copying the "where are the critics of Dave Nonis now?" articles we saw here in Toronto.

Man we're really just going to keep pretending that Leivo is hurt huh?

Also interesting that they picked Soshnikov over Leipsic and Kapanen despite those 2 tearing it up.

Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Frankie Corrado is paired with Morgan Rielly in line rushes. Looks like he's finally in for the #leafs.

Perpetual healthy scratch to top pairing. Go figure.

edit: God damnit Chris Johnson!

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris
False alarm -- Frankie Corrado is cycling through pairings now. Likely indicates another scratch, but we'll ask #leafs coach Mike Babcock.

Agreed, on form, he shouldn't be the guy, but by all accounts he had made the team by the end of the season last year and only went down because he was hurt and they wanted him to get into game shape.

I think its more that Soshnikov can bring more to a bottom 6 spot than the other 2...and he would have made the team out of camp had he not been injured

So lines at the morning skate were:

Komarov-Kadri-Brown
JVR-Bozak-Marner
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Martin-Smith-Soshnikov

Rielly-Zaitsev
Gardiner-Polak
Marincin-Carrick

Holland, Griffith, Corrado scratched. So close to that ideal 4th line, the pieces are all right there!

Soshnikov - Holland - Griffith >>>> Martin, Smith

I would've juggled the lineup harder. JvR-Bozak need to be split. Kadri needs firepower help. Hyman is probably hindering Matthews more than helping too.

Over and above whatever we've said about how good he is/his actual on ice impact the Martin contract makes for an oddly inflexible fourth line which is probably sub-optimal.

So I think Polak and Griffith are going to be scratched.

I don't understand why Babs didn't keep Marner up with Leo and Kads at least for one game.

Maybe Brown with JVR and Bozie is too weak of a line?

Hyman is the perfect 4th liner: fast, tenacious, N/S mindset, can score sometimes/maybe. I'd rather he be down there than Griffith.

For funsies, which line do you match up your top defense against?
JvR - Kadri - Marner
Nylander - Matthews - Griffith
Soshnikov - Bozak - Brown
Komarov - Holland - Hyman

Edit: maybe swap Soshnikov and Komarov if you don't want too many puck muckers on 4th. Sosh isn't playing that well on the Marlies at the moment.

I still think you'd put your best defenders on the Nylander-Matthews line.
