The Leafs will officially close out their pre-season schedule tonight, albeit with an AHL squad. Must be a tough game for a bunch of these guys to play in knowing they'll be on waivers in a day or two.

If there's one thing that watching Hard Knocks has taught me over the years it's that players who might get cut should use every pre-season game as an audition for other teams.

Or something about Antonio Cromartie trying to remember how many kids he has. To be honest, watching Hard Knocks has taught me very little.

It was fun though!

Well, I think the 7D and and either 8D or 14th fwd are still up for grabs.  So, that's what everyone there is playing for tonight.  Cause if you have:

Rielly - Hainsey
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Ozhiganov

Who's number 7?  For me, it's Borgman, Carrick, Rosen or Holl.  None of them looked particularly good this preseason, but it's your last chance to make an impression.

Borgman and Rosen would not need waivers to get sent to the AHL. Carrick, Marincin, and Holl would. I imagine that will play some sort of role in the decision when we're talking about press box guys.

I think they should keep Marincin and Holl for the pressbox; Carrick's name is out in trade chatter. Easy enough to cycle those two with Ozhiganov and Hainsey as required (easy games).

Give Borgman and Rosen the big minutes in the top 4 on the Marlies with Sandin, Liljegren, LoVerde. Rosen gets the call if either one of Rielly or Gardiner are incapacitated.

I think Rosen has already blown his opportunity with his play in the last game and I would have suggested Holl for 7th D-man position before the preseason began.

Right now I would think it?s probably between Borgman or Carrick. That spot , in my mind, should really belong to either Dernott or Ozhiganov, after a trade is made for a capable 1st or 2nd pairing D-man .

Depending where they are in the standings come the trade deadline, but I would imagine they?ll get a veteran defenseman at least by then to bolster the backend for the playoffs

Yeah, I'm on the same page. I think Holl and Marincin are known commodities at this point - career AHLers. If someone wants them on waivers, no problem in my mind.

I'm not willing to give up on Carrick yet. He's got more decent NHL games under him than the rest, and until they can upgrade higher up in the pairings, I think he's the best option at #7.

The problem Carrick's had for a long time now here is that he'll never play on the powerplay or on the penalty kill. So his value to the team is limited when he's only playing 5-on-5. That's a tough spot when most of the other bottom pairing guys can also provide PK minutes.

Just curious...did the Leafs dress *any* defencemen tonight? I only ask because I haven't seen any sign of one...

My wife went away for the weekend.

Me and my son watched all of Fridays game (doesn't usually stay up late enough) and none of last nights game.  Good weekend!
