Game Notes

DET
?Jimmy Howard (3-1-0, 1.97 GAA, .942 Sv%) will likely start for the Red Wings
?The Wings are off to a surprisingly good start going 4-2 so far. They currently hold the NHL record for wins against the Vegas Golden Knights franchise with '1'
?Detroit has the 5th best PK in the league early this season, which will be tested by the 5th best PP in Toronto
?Former Leaf David Booth played in 3 games for Detroit, and is one of just 3 forwards who haven't recored a point yet this season for the team. He averged 4:56 of ice-time in those games
?Defenceman Mike Green has been leading the way for Detroit so far this season, recording 1 goal and 8 assists in 6 games

TOR
?Curtis McElhinney will likely make his regular season debut for the Leafs
?Going to assume that the 4C and 6D carousel continues which means Fehr and Borgman will swap back in

Injuries

?Danny DeKeyser - Lower Body - Questionable Wednesday
Code:

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely

Hey guys, how does it feel to have a 4th line that can skate (and make plays) and a 3rd pairing that can also skate (and make plays)?

Go McBackup Go!!!

Matthews will break his slump tonight.

I Actually liked Brown on the Bozak Line, now if they can exchange Martin on the 4th Line Marner might work his magic and make this line also score.

I wonder if there's any chance of the 4th line ever being

Leivo - Moore - Marner

Or even drop Komarov down to the 4th and run

JVR - Bozak - Brown
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Leivo - Moore - Komarov

(I think we did see Komarov down on the 4th line at one point last night, but it may have just been for one shift)

Yeah that was a post-PP shift to close out the 2nd period, I wouldn't really read into that much.

What I would like to see:

Matthews-Nylander-Kapenen
JVR - Bozak - Brown
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Hyman - Moore - Komarov

I feel like Nylander is going to be playing on the 4th line tonight after that move in front of Andersen last night.

If that was anybody but Nylander, or Matthews, they'd have been blasted around here last night.

Nylander would have been blasted if the puck ended up in the Leafs' net. The fact the Caps didn't score is the only reason he's getting some leeway here - at least, in my case. It's more of a "don't do that again" situation rather than a "you screwed up" situation.

I mean if it's some slug like Martin that did that sure he'd be blasted since he doesn't ever produce offense, so you're less likely to let him off the hook on a play like that.  Nylander does so much more for the team with his offense that you can forgive a play like that (especially since it didn't end up in a goal)

I think the fact that the puck didn't end up in the net is not really relevant.  It probably should have.

I think the reason I bring this up is that Babcock goes bananas over that kind of mistake, especially given the score at that point of the game when they're trying to close out a close one.

I'm not suggesting that I would demote him, given his overall performance (and Babcock didn't ask me what I would do, FYI)...but given Babcock's previous lashings on guys making dumb plays in important situations, I'd be surprised if he hadn't had a very short and stern conversation with him after the game, at least.
