I started a thread.

Well, you might be a step slower but I firmly believe you have better character and leadership.

Should be a good chance to check out Nylander.

A lot of possible Marlies on that list too. Half the defence, all three goalies. Biggs, Broll, Brown, Leivo, Nylander, the Ruperts.

There's a young English guy who plays for Dundee Stars in the British Elite League has been invited over to this by Chicago. Paul Swindlehurst. Normally I'd have a watch if I can for the Leafs games but I'll be interested to see how he gets on also.

I'd love to see a Tony Hand-type player come over and have success in the NHL. This guys stats are pretty ho-hum though even for his level, wonder what Chicago sees in him.

The GM of the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate is a former player and GM who spent a lot of time playing in the British leagues and he has kept an interest in the leagues back over here. He took another young guy who was playing for the Belfast Giants across a few years back - David Phillips - who ended up playing a decent amount in the AHL before coming home via I think Denmark.

Junior development in the UK is a bit... disjointed for want of a better word. Swindlehurst played in what would be the second division until 2 seasons ago, the EPL, before moving up to play his first pro season last year with Dundee. It tends to be that people either sink or swim when they make that step up from EPL to Elite level. Swindlehurst definitely had a huge breakout year and made it into the full GB side for the World Champs where he was probably the best defenceman on show.

I think this, and obviously the Rockford GM link have got him the chance. From what I've seen he's a good solid stay at home DMan with a tough streak. But it's a huge step up from the British pro leagues even to the ECHL.

There are talented players over here but they tend to evolve despite the system and not because of it.

By the by, regarding Tony Hand I don't think we'll ever produce a British talent as good as he was again. He's retiring at the end of this season at the age of 47 after putting up 90 points in 57 games last season in the British 2nd tier
