Rangers in 5. Just too big a gap in the talent between the pipes.

Ditto. I really like the Rangers line-up. Think they stand the best chance against Boston in the East.

Tough break for the Flyers.

I like their offense but it always seems as if they have so much money invested in these 2nd/3rd tier defensemen, and then are stuck with a goalie in net who isn't worth his weight in dog sh*t.

TSN just said that Giroux has gone goalless in his last 15 or so games against the Rangers. Interesting how nobody obsesses over that like Kessel vs. Boston.

edit: Philly apparently has also lost 9 straight at MSG. Again, something else that I haven't heard mentioned before.

Well, except Giroux isn't particularly noteworthy as a goal scorer. He's got 13 points in his last 15 regular season games against the Rangers and he's an exceptional defensive forward so he's contributing significantly even when not on the score sheet.

Fair enough. I think TSN was a bit tricky with their reporting then. They showed a graphic of his last 9 games at MSG and he only had 3 assists in those 9 games. Then they said that he's gone goalless in 15 against the Rangers as a whole. Like you said though, clearly he's still been providing offence at home at least.

And I get that Giroux is a great defensive player too, but I don't think that would stop the media from constantly running "Giroux can't score against NYR" stories. But like you said that's not even true so this whole thing is moot anyway.

It doesn't fit into a convenient narrative the way the Kessel thing did though(and, if we're being real the Kessel thing fit a few from "Playing against his old team" to "Chara shuts him down" and so on). Unless there's the history behind Giroux and the Rangers that there was between Kessel and Boston then that's a pretty dry story even if Giroux was really bad against them.

NY Rangers 4  Philadelphia 1.  Rangers lead series 2 games to 1.

The Rangers (and former Flyer) Danny Carcillo, he of the fighter fists, scored a god, got into a fight and stared a Flyer fan back, while at thl other end of the ice, Philadelphia's Claude Giroux, he of the sniper wrists, recorded his first shot of
the series.  (Ahem) but obviously this series has it's
strangeness.

Anyways, it was the Rangers all the way, as they got goals from St, Louis, Girardi, ad Stepan,
Defenceman Mark Streit scored Philadelphia's lone marker.
Also, for the Flyers, looks like netminder Steve Mason is ready
to return for the next game (thoug no word yet from Flyers
coach Berube).  Judging by Ray Emery's play, the Flyers
should be desperate enough to anticipate their top
goaltender's return (Mason).

Game story:

NY Rangers 4  Pniladdphia 2.  Ranger lead series 3 game to 2.

Defensive turnovers cost the Flyers as the Rangers swiftly took advantage to advance on the scoreboard.  The Rangers defensive units excelled at frustrating the Flyers, who couldn't seem to get going much.

Philadelphia 5  NYRangers 2.  Series tied at 3 apiece.

Goaltender Steve Mason, a raucous Philly crowd, and forward Wayne Simmonds led the way for the Flyers, as Philadelphia tied their series all up thus forcing a Game 7, as the series shifts back to Manhattan.

Mason made all the critical saves unlike in Game 5 (a 4-2 loss), while big Wayne Simmonds scored a hat trick to complete the picture.

Rangers netminder Lundqvist, after the Flyers 3-0 lead, was replaced by back-up Cam Talbot.

It is worth noting that the New York Rangers, in their post-season history so far, have lost 12 games in a row where they've had a series lead.  History does not look to be on the Rangers side.

The amount of money that I'd pay Stralman to come back is increasing every game.
