When the  the St.Louis Blues lost to the Minnesota Wild in the previous round, their goaltending became a large part of the losing equation.  Subpar at best, much ado about nothing at worst.  The Wild's offence took swift, accurate advantage of that.

It would do well if the Chicago Blackhawks were to heed that warning.  Afterall, Chicago's netminders -- rookie Scott Darling, who performed well in the beginning in their previous series against the Predators but tapered off, nor their number one Corey Crawford who was a dud, save for the last game of that series -- aren't anything to glow about thus far.

The Wild have the magic man behind the net, Devan Dubnyk, and when he plays well, he plays well.  Minnesota sports the best power play of the playoffs, and their offence led not only by Zach Parise, but add Neidereitter and Granlund with contributions from their defence, such as workhorse Gary Suter, can create havoc for opposing goalies.  The Wild have excellent ouck possession and once they get going, it's tough to stop this fast-skating, hungry team.

The 'Hawks as anyone will tell you have not been performing too well on all fronts, yet, when they need to get it done, they get it done.  Apart from Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa, including the great defensive pair of Seabrook & Keith, the 'Hawks have someone no one else has -- Jonathan Toews.  He leads all Chicago forwards in goals and proficiency and there's probably no one else better when it comes to that word called compete.

Chicago had to play a bit of catch-up hockey against the Predators, and they managed to come up with the wins when they had to.
Minnesota made short work of the Blues' weaknesses and they're certainly waiting to do the same against Chicago.

Can't wait to watch!

I'm not impressed with this American focused schedule.

Rangers/Capitals play at noon today.  No Saturday night game.  Three games on Sunday.

Chicago 4  Minnesota 3  Chicago leads series 1 game to 0.

Anyone heard of Teuvo Teravainen?  That's right.  A rookie playing in his first-ever playoff game scored what proved to be the winner as the 'Hawks barely staved off the persistent Wild.

Teravainen scored in the second period, after the Wild came back from a 3-0 deficit in the same period, before Teavainen's marker.

The Blackhawks had more than their share of trouble containing a Minnesota team known for it's sharp sniping skills.  After Teravainen's go-ahead goal, the Blackhawks needed their netminder Corey Crawford to preserve the win the rest of the way.

Minnesota had plenty of chances to tie up the game but came up short in attempting to solve Crawford.  At the other end of the rink, the Wild's Devan Dubnyk settled down after being rattled for three goals all in the first period.
Both goaltenders stopped an equal number of shots.

It really blows my mind that at the beginning of the 2nd round there's no Saturday night game.

Crawford just shoved Vanek and Vanek got a goalie interference penalty. Bishop's mind would have exploded if he saw that.

Vanek was pushed into Crawford right before, but the ref clearly puts his hand up after Crawford takes his shot.

That might just be it for the Wild. Chicago looks pretty good right now. Keith in particular seems to be on another level.

I seem to have both overestimated the Wild and underestimated Chicago. CHI-ANA is going to be a hell of a WCF.

Chicago finished off a sweep of Minnesota with a 4-3 win.

My bracket was completely perfect before last night, and that's including if TB, WAS, and ANA all go through. Stupid Minny.

This series seemed quite predictable from the outset.  The Wild somehow seemed 'undermanned' (even though they weren't) in their quest to wrest so much as a win from the 'Hawks.  The numbers and the compete spirit went AWOL, so to speak.

This is telling:
Minnesota had the second-worst winning percentage of any playoff team in the regular season team at .297 when trailing first (Washington was .205). That trend carried over into the post-season, winning just once in six contests for a .143 mark, the worst of any team that made it to the second round.
