Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos has practically gone AWOL in these playoffs, emerging with just three points in the previous round against the Red Wings.  Of course, was it a great concern for the Lightning when their superstar sniper seems shutdown?  Yes and no.  There were others who took up the slack such as Tyler Johnson, who along with his linemates Palat and Kucherov, was a tour de force against Detroit.

The Montreal Canadiens come into this series having disposed of the Ottawa Senators in Round 1, but not too efficiently, though.  While Montreal got goals from players such as Pacioretty and Gallagher, their power play and special teams were questionable if not plain bad. Having P.K. Subban on the defence, as elite and proficient a player that he is, is more than enough for any team to figure out.
There are however holes in Montreal's play as much as there are in Tampa Bay's and neither of these two teams are perfect.

Except for maybe the Habs netminder Carey Price.  Among the NHL's very best. And when Carey Price has a hot glove, nothing much gets by him.  He has been Montreal's trump card throughout the regular season and now these playoffs.

The Lightning have Ben Bishop who is no slouch himself in net.  He may not be experienced a la Price, but he provides Tampa Bay with more than adequate goaltending.

This series is a toss up with both teams relying on key players in all areas, defence, offence and in goal.  Who will win will depend largely on who excels and who  falters  behind.  And yes, Pearl, Steven Stamkos needs to step up.

Tim Thompson was the one who made the montage videos for CBC. He has NHL teams asking him to make videos to pump up their players but Rogers didn't want him to do the same thing for their viewers.

It was the single most bizarre decision I've ever seen. They took over the broadcast and got rid of the best part, kept on all of the worst parts.

I'm with you guys.  I used to really enjoy those montages to start games on Saturday night.  I live in Seattle so stream most games, but I always look(ed) forward to the HNIC broadcasts I got via Vancouver CBUT.  In fact, some games those montages were so good I played them more than once.  They always sort of stirred the emotions before game time.

These days I TiVo the games and skip the intro.  In fact, most games I've been skipping the intermission spots as well, other than when someone like Friedman or McKenzie is talking.  I think Rogers has really trashed the best of the non-game action elements of the broadcast.  It's a shame, really.

I missed all but the last 4 minutes of the period.  How did both teams look?  Anyone with an obvious advantage?

Thought the Habs looked better the first 10 minutes, Lightning the next 10 minutes.

Thanks!  Looking at the teams in the East, it feels like any matchup could go 7 games right up to the final.  The Ducks should be well rested after alternating winning 4 games and having a week off, and will probably make life miserable for whichever team moves on.

just another great playoff game. NHL playoffs are head and shoulders for excitement over any sport.... Glad to see TB pull it out.. But this should be a great series..

I find it humorous that a goal is called back against Montreal for pushing the goaltender when they appear to be the team that makes the most effort to make contact with opposing goaltenders.

It was definitely an exciting game to watch.  It had everything a hockey fan could hope for in a playoff game -- speed, skill, up-ice rushes, breakaways, uptempo pace, two-on-ones, great saves, disallowed goal(s), controversy, etc.

Didn't think that Kucherov's goal should have been disallowed.  Interference?  Not so sure, but then, the rulings the ruling.  The Lightning had to swallow that one, so to speak.

Kucherov got his 'revenge' in the double OT.  Montreal cried offside.  That one did appear to be offside.  Still, that should have been no excuse for the loss on the Habs part.  They simply got outdone.

They must have bumped Bishop half a dozen times at least. They're gonna get called for that eventually, right?
