Game Notes

ott
?Anderson (11-12-5, 3.14 GAA, .899 Sv%) will likely start for the sens
?Ottawa had a game last night, but you might not want to remind them of that. They lost to the Blackhawks by a score of 8-2. They were outshot 43-27 and Chicago went 4-for-6 on the PP
?Craig Anderson got the start against Chicago but after letting in 4 goals on 26 shots he was pulled halfway through the game. Mike Condon then let in 4 goals on 17 shots in the second half. It's anybody's guess who starts this one
?Bobby Ryan left that game with a hand injury and has been ruled out against the Leafs
?The sens may have to go with 11 forwards and 7 defencemen tomorrow as Borowiecki is the only healthy spare player on their roster at the moment. Extra forwards aren't cheap ya know, gotta keep those operating costs down

TOR
?Andersen (22-12-2, 2.65 GAA, .922 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
?Dermott's first two NHL games earned praise from the fans, teammates, and coaches. Even Lou Lamoriello himself went on the radio on Tuesday to talk about how impressed he was by the young defenceman. Mike Babcock, champion of "empowering players who do things right", rewarded that performance by... having him practice as the 7D on Tuesday? No... that can't be right. Disregard that for now until I look into that further
?William Nylander is on a bit of a run, he has 10 points in his last 10 games. Rielly is right behind him with 8 points in his last 8 games
?Ok three separate beat reporters can't all be wrong: Travis Dermott skated as the 7D at practice on Tuesday. In all seriousness though, probably not something to get worked up about. Dermott practiced as the 7D the day before his NHL debut as well so he could very well still play tomorrow night. Or he could get sent back to the Marlies to play while the Leafs are off after this game. Either way, we'll see the young defencemen again one day

Injuries

?Bobby Ryan - Hand - Out Wednesday
?Johnny Oduya - Lower Body - Questionable Wednesday
?Nate Thompson - Lower Body - Injured Reserve
?Chris Wideman - Hamstring - Injured Reserve
Code:

?Nathan Horton - Back - Out indefinitely
?Joffrey Lupul - Actually Injured - Out indefinitely
?Nikita Soshnikov - Groin - Injured Reserve
?Nikita Zaitsev - Lower Body - Injured Reserve

Polak has a 41.7% CF and 35.7% GF in the past 10 games. He's also taken 10 minor penalties in that span, and 2 of those were while the Leafs were already on the penalty kill. But his spot in the line-up is guaranteed while 3 better players have to rotate for 2 spots.

I'm starting to think that being considered a good NHL coach means that you stand by your weird decisions and still manage to win.  Sure anybody can win when you make the right decision all the time.  To be extraordinary you have to find ways to win while making bad decisions.

I'm not jinxing anything... Ottawa is going to get murdered tonight. Leafs score at least 6. Sens sucks period.

But, he's a good pro, who plays a safe game, and blah blah blah.

I don't get it. I don't get how Babcock doesn't see it. I just don't understand.

Thank you for taking my mind off Komarov's ice time for a few minutes!  :-*

I just hate playing a team the night after they were destroyed.  It never turns out good.

Agreed.  Also when you factor in the Leafs might be fragile after the loss to Columbus, and the fact that the Sens have a pretty healthy winning streak over the Leafs, this game could get ugly.

I'd like to see this put to Babcock almost verbatim, I understand media has to foster relationships, but they are supposed to have some sort of journalistic integrity too.

It's unfair to those other players and it's unfair to even semi-educated fans to have the coach say one thing on the right hand and then do another with the left and never be explicitly challenged.

Babcock ".......accountability..........unless you are Polak, then you get exemptions"

That was his actual quote.

Maybe Babcock is afraid that if Polak isn't in the lineup, then fans may find someone else to be a whipping boy.  Perhaps he dresses him as an excuse for a loss.

I honestly wonder if Polak is a pawn in some sort of front office power struggle between Babcock and Lou... And Babcock keeps playing him to show Lou how much he sucks and how Lou needs to listen to his opinion on players...

They'll get up for the Leafs. Doesn't matter how bad they've been playing I doubt it's an easy Leafs win tonight
