So the Blue Jays began their season opener on the road yesterday afternoon, against their A.L. rivals the Baltimore Orioles whom the Jays eliminated in last year's (2016) Wildcard playoff game.

While this year's Jays made some changes to their roster, the biggest being not re-signing Edwin Encarnacion (who signed with the Cleveland Indians),  management and staff are optimistic of achieving and maintaining success for the Toronto club.  So much so that the club was confident enough in retaining Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman and Marco Estrada, the Jays aces as well as of course J.A. Happ & Roberto Osuna, along with Josh Donaldson, all signed to multi-year contracts.  Not to mention the veteran leader and experienced Jose Bautista.

The  Jays slightly tweaked roster brings in  Kendrys Morales (who replaces Encarnacion as DH) as well as Devon Travis at 2B while Justin Smoak occupies 1B.

Expectations are high among Jays afficionados and the Toronto faithful as they should be.

Playball!

Jays 2  Orioles 3    11th

Call it the one that got away, as in the Jays' Kevin PilIars mysterious flying bats (no, not the ones that hang upside down); the Orioles Mark Trumbo who won it with a walk-off homerun in the extra innings... yes, it was that kind of opening day for the Blue Jays, not all bad of course.

The Jays starter Estrada allowed only two runs in six innings, and had good balance  & fluidity in his pitches.  Too bad reliever Jason Grilli couldn't get the out that was Trumbo.

Jays 1  Orioles 3

Same close score as the previous opening game save for one less Blue Jay run.  Yet another close game where both teams were evenly matched with J.A.Happ starting for the Jays, giving up three runs, while Dylan Bundy of the Orioles went the distance.

This time it was Chris Davis' solo homer that clinched the victory for the Orioles in the fourth.  Too bad the Jays couldn't quite counter though they did have their chances, but the Jays problem appears to leave too many runners stranded, as they had done on in Monday's opener-- stranding a team record 13 runners.
