One thing I will criticize Gibbons for is Pillar leading off.  Make it stop.

It's painful.  He doesn't take pitches and he's not a .330 hitter to compensate for a low BB%.  I know his career numbers aren't good but the last few years Saunders has had a .330-.340 OBP which isn't perfect but isn't bad.  He probably should be the leadoff hitter at this point.

Happ has put together two nice starts so far for the team.  Cecil still looks really off and his curveball is really ineffective at this point.

This was going around twitter this morning:

21 players have no walks in 20+ PA, and Pillar leads the list with the most PA without taking a walk.

This isn't because of his performance yesterday but I'd rather see Goins leading off... In lieu of any better options

Goins would also have to improve his patience a bit. I might try Tulo leading off. He's not having a great start to the season, but he's a veteran guy who would probably be better able to adapt to the situation.

Didn't Tulo bat leadoff for a bit when we acquired him?  (I could be wrong)

For a few games, yeah. Not for long enough to really draw a conclusion on it.

You are correct.

I'd prefer Goins leading off over Pillar because Pillar seems to have some delusions of grandeur at the plate. Tulo could work as well in theory (he really makes the pitcher work), but he chafed under that task last year and never really got his bat going (still sour about Colorado dumping him?).

This came out a week ago, Stroman's Player's Tribune article about playing and living in Toronto, but I don't think it was posted here.  Stroman's big win tonight reminded me to put it up:

It's well worth the read.

A great article by Marcus S. I like the way he talks about Toronto, this coming from a guy who didn't even want to play in Canada to begin with.
Ah, what a change and how Toronto & Canada changed him.

Good.  All good.  Way to go, Stroman!

Ump is brutal tonight.

Not just bad strike calls but incredibly inconsistent.  Pitches 6 inches off the plate were strikes sometimes and other times pitches 4 inches inside off the plate were getting called.  His zone was equally bad for both teams.  Unfortunately Dickey can't locate a knuckleball so he didn't get credit for his pitches and then it was just a gong show for both bullpens getting calls.

Smoak - 11 strikeouts in 12 at bats (3 walks)
Colabello - 1/19 (.053 AVG)
Tulowitzki - .222 AVG as a Blue Jay
Pillar - 0 walks in 41 at bats (robbed of one by a terrible umpire)

He didn't start today but Martin has been awful offensively as well.

A difference a year makes: From record-setters to...go figure...

At this time last season, the Jays had the fewest strikeouts per game of any team in the majors.

At this time this year, the Jays have the highest strikeouts per game of any team in the majors.
