Series 34: Jays at Yankees

Jays up 2-0.  Estrada through 5 innings doing a really nice job of confusing the Yankees hitters.  They aren't making good contact at all.  He has given them opportunities though with a few walks.

Colabello down 0-2 with two pitches that were a combined 2 feet off the plate.  Hilarity.

The zone is interesting today (for both teams).
Bases loaded now after HBP on Colabello, with 0 outs.

Can Smoak make it 2 games in a row with the grand slam?
Edit: Nope.

Strikeout-Strikeout-Weak fly out.  0 runs.

Textbook bottom of the order baseball.

Credit to Justin Wilson, just crushing the bottom of the order with fireballs.

Jays sweep the Yanks, allowing only 1 run in 3 games.

Also, for the first time since 1985, they have two winning streaks of 8 games or more in the same season.

The Blue Jays are now 11-1 since Tulowitzki's debut.  They hold a 1.0 game lead on the Angels in the Wild-card race and are now just 1.5 games back of the Yankees for the division.

Yankees' only run was that "home run" by Teixera in the 2nd inning Friday.

Those numbers are nuts, I honestly can't recall a stretch in recent history where the pitching has been this good.

Without Hutchinson:
1.68 ERA  0.35 WHIP  192 K 17 BB

okay not really, I made that up but it almost seems plausible doesn't it

It amused me so I looked into it and indeed the numbers are ridiculous.

18 starts/22 GP - 1.98 ERA 0.873 WHIP  137 K 37 BB

Also on the sellout front.  Thursday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday are all sold out for the Jays at this point.

Yep and the Sunday game vs. Detroit is sold out as well. That would put the Jays at 11 sellouts (and counting)!
