Series 36:Yankees at Jays

Hutchison with a nice start so far.  Severino is getting ridiculous calls.  Revere got a called 3rd strike on a pitch in the batters box.

And that got the Jays going.  3-0 through 3 innings.

Solid win today, and very good outing by Hutch.  Good to see he was up to the task.

Aaron Loup got optioned to Buffalo today.  Can't say I'm heartbroken, he's been far too unreliable this year, and very little used as of late.

Hey, you own a thesaurus. Good job.

Revere has a history of high average and hitting for singles. But despite this and his great speed, he doesn't get on base that well. And since coming to Toronto he's hitting about .190 and has been looking terrible at the plate. They had a righty who kills lefty pitching in Valencia who they let go for nothing. They don't even have a 4th outfielder. All of those factors together is what I found annoying.

Valencia also being a good match-up doesn't make Revere  a bad one(although, as pointed out, Valencia being on the team would make no sense right now).

Revere's got a good history of doing the one thing the Blue Jays needed most in that situation, hitting a single against left-handed pitchers, Miller included. That's just a fact.

Bell, Barfield, Moseby, Fernandez, Henke, Steib, Key, Iorg, Mulliniks, Gaston...down memory lane, the 1985 A.L. East champions.  So long ago...

...for these three Blue Jays -- Bell, Moseby, and Barfield -- the '85 series loss to the K.C. Royals still hurts:

Watching the game I was surprised when Price came out for the 8th. We have the horses in the pen, use them. I was expecting my man LaTroy to come out for the 8th. Sanchez probably could have used a day of rest but oh well. Second outing in a row he's allowed inherited runners to score. Let's see how he progresses.

Revere batting wasn't an issue. I wish we still had Valencia though.

Gibbons has started and will continue using the rotation judiciously:

Seriously? Why would you respond to a set of preceding sentences that have no context without the concluding sentence? I mean I can quote half of your response like this: "Hey, you" and respond with, "hey man" but what would be the point?

I was thinking the other day, I wonder if the case for the Jays pulling the trigger on the moves this past month was helped along by the likelihood that the Jays could create some buzz into the fall and sell a bunch of tickets/bigger tv audience without having the Leafs taking over the spotlight in September/October, given how likely disappointing the Leafs' season is likely to start/go.

I mean, if I had to guess, I'd guess that the Jays didn't really consider the Leafs when making these trades.

It certainly doesn't hurt but yeah, I think it had far more to do with AA needing a winner to keep his job and having the assets to actually make these trades.

CC Sabathia decided to run his mouth outside a Toronto nightclub Friday night. Looks like he got in the cab just in time, although someone is running around with his pretty pink shoe. Tabloid crap, but still somewhat entertaining  ::)
