Time to End the All-Star Game

More of this fan voting crap.

John Scott is 3rd in voting for the All-Star game.

That annoys me (well I don't know if it reaches the level of annoyance really) because while people might want to make fun of the ASG, there are still people who pay to go to the game.  If I'm paying to go I'd rather see as many of the most skilled players as possible.  If there's going to be no actual trying then I sure would rather see a skilled player doing that than John friggin' Scott.

Or just take the vote away from the fans, I guess. Even still, who cares? It's a meaningless game, why worry about who plays in it?

If I remember correctly the last time this happened with the great Rory Fitzpatrick the NHL basically started making a bunch of votes disappear.

Anyway I'm reading the rules right now and the NHL basically set themselves up for this. They allow you to vote 10 times a day, which is basically the troll-voters dream. People generally aren't going to waste their time voting for Taylor Hall 10 times a day, but the ones who think it'd be hilarious to see John Scott there will.

I'm ok with both actually.  To be honest I don't think I have watched the All-Star game in years.  I did watch the draft last year and found it mildly amusing to have on in the background.

Yeah. I mean, as much as the ASG is a farce, there's probably enough of a financial incentive to keep it going. They just either have to eliminate fan voting, or go back to the days where you had to have been at a game during the voting period to vote.

Seriously, why worry about who plays? For those of us who enjoy the all-star game, we sure as hell don't want to watch John Scott.

I don't know. I get the sense that if someone like Scott made the All-Star team he might actually put his heart into it.

I don't care about it much either way and I'm unlikely to watch the game.  However, I think it would be kind of an "embarrassing honour" for Scott that whole weekend, and it will deprive a talented player who might actually like to go to the game the chance to do so.

Which begs the question of whether Scott would manage to be competitive when playing 100% against players with puck talent playing at 10%.

If I remember correctly he apparently quietly asked the NHL not to pick him for the ASG last year because he simply didn't want to go. I'm sure he has the same arrangement with the league this time around if these fans don't mess things up.

Yesterday morning John Scott talked to TSN and said that he wouldn't turn down the All-Star invite if he was voted in, and he called it a "once in a lifetime opportunity". He seemed legitimately interested in playing, saying multiple times that it's all in good fun. When it was brought up that Jagr was begging fans not to vote for him, he literally said "I would definitely not turn it down".

Sometime after that the Coyotes twitter account posted this:

So, I wonder how much the NHL paid Scott to change his mind.

Also there's a campaign now to get Frank Corrado voted into the all-star game. He's currently 45th among Atlantic division players. Let's do our part to finally get Frankie into a game this season guys!

It's official: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=795530&navid=DL|NHL|home

Jagr, Kane, Ovechkin, and John Scott were voted as the ASG captains.

Jagr's already said he doesn't really want to be there, and it's probably likely the NHL allows him to bow out. What does Scott do though?

At about the two minute mark Jagr gets asked about being voted in. I get some people are upset with Scott being voted in but I'd much rather see guys who at least want to be there.

I don't get the impression that there's a heck of a lot of guys (big minute players, anyway) that would prefer to be there instead of taking the weekend off.
