As per twitter, Colton Orr has been placed on waivers.

I liked Orr a lot.  I really did.  But I think we can all agree we had no use for him and what he brought.  The NHL has clearly been shying away from the designated tough guy, and rightfully so.

We'll see if he gets claimed.  This is also Burke probably being a 'nice guy' and giving him a chance somewhere else.

Why do it now...it should have happened at the start of the year as it certainly didn't get him to his pension.

Yup, I like the guy. A good, honest, hard working tough guy who knew his role. Hope he has his health, and I hope if he makes it down to the minors he gets a chance to play a bit and maybe pick up a few points rather than have to play the same role exclusively down there.

He could be an excellent guy to have on the Marlies.

Considering he's only dressed for 5 games this season, I'm a little surprised it took this long. I guess he now has enough roster time to earn his pension.

This may not be the end for him here, he can still be kept on the roster. Likely though, someone on the IR list is ready to return.

For 1 million a year I don't think anyone takes a flyer on him... The Marlies will soon have like a  50 man roster it seems

Maybe the Rags give him another run... A less talented replacement for Avery but with much less baggage.

The Rangers are pretty deep at forward, so it'd be surprising to see. They also have Prust and Rupp to handle any disagreements on the ice, and both are upgrades on Orr.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if he gets claimed at all actually.

Especially with another year left on his contract.

Good.  Looks like the Leafs are finally realizing they should keep up guys that might actually contribute (Kadri, Frattin, Boyce) and remove guys that don't provide a single thing.

I'd put Crabb in that list too.  Although I don't know if we'd need more players gone if all the forwards became healthy.

I like seeing shuffling of the deck. I wonder if we see a deal or two happen before the deadline. It's crazy but a small winning streak would vault the team, but a losing streak will kill them. They can't afford to tread water anymore.

Assuming it's Brown that will be activated after Orr is assigned to the Marlies or claimed, Armstrong and Bozak are still on the IR.

2 more spots will have to open up -- Frattin, Kadri, Boyce, Crabb and Rosehill would be the possibilities to go down IMO.

Yeah I know, I just listed Kadri because finally it looks like he *may* stick with the team instead of constantly being send back down whenever someone comes off the IR.  It was frustrating to watch Orr and Rosehill taking up 2 roster spots providing nothing, while you have a guy like Kadri (and now Boyce and Crabb) who might actually give you stuff like points and PK time.

I would pick Rosehill and Crabb from that list based on right now.  (To waive/send down that is)

My guesses would be Boyce and Crabb, unless Burke has a trade lined up already, in which case, Kadri and/or Frattin would go down temporarily, since they won't have to pass through waivers.

I still think something is cooking and we see a trade here. Even if it's something small. I also see something happening with a defenseman, as Aulie has been getting a good look recently to see if he can still be Phaneuf's wing man.

Unless Burke just wants to keep Rosehill over Orr, I think there is something more to him clearing space. Crabb could go down, keeping Boyce up. I still think Frattin could use some seasoning, but I realize not many people share that opinion. Even Gardiner needs to have a bit more urgency in his game, he can get lackadaisical at times, I hate that. So Burke has moves he could make internally, if he simply just wanted room, but he seems to be clearing specific space now. Like guys that he had to make a decision on for good, ie; Orr and Dupuis.
