It's worth noting that should the Sharks win, one of the picks they sent the Leafs in their Reimer deal moves from a 4th to a 3rd.

Picks in 2038, but still it'd be a nice little bump up one round.

I wonder how many teams will be in the league in 2038...

You mean 2018.  ;)

Top-6/top-4 looks pretty close to me here, but St. Louis' depth looks so much better. Think they take this. Should be a very good series though.

And no 10pm games!

Yeah, it's been a running joke since the picks were three drafts away...

St.Louis 6  San Jose 3.  Series tied at 2 games apiece.

St.Louis coach Ken Hitchcock knew he had to do something to shore up his shaky team after their loss in Game 3.  It started with a goaltending change, as in Jake Allen replacing beleaguered netminder Brian Elliott.  Albiet not a major change, since Elliott has been nothing short of brilliant in these playoffs, yet for the Blues, the result was a turnaround from their previous outing at the SAP Center (aka the Shark tank).

The Blues, with Allen behind net, solidified their defence and got goals from clutch performers in Troy Brouwer and Kyle Brodziak and went on to even the series all up.

The Sharks netminder Martin Jones, himself a stellar performer in these playoffs for San Jose, suffered the same fate that befell Elliott for the losing cause, and was replaced by backup James Reimer with the score out of reach.

Strange as it may seem that both teams' top goalkeepers have had subpar performances.  As for James Reimer, he being a former Toronto Maple Leaf, (before being traded to San Jose), the LeafsNation may be interested to know that he allowed one goal thereafter in relief of Jones on seven shots.

Game 5 is in St.Louis Monday.

Without watching any games I was pulling for St. louis because they've been around longer than the Sharks without a championship.

However I just watched 5 minutes of this game 6 and after seeing Joe Thortons epic beard I have to say I want to see him raise the cup.

Well, good on the Sharks but don't you ever kind of wish a team would grab the Conference Championship trophy as a big middle finger to the concept of magical thinking?

I don't mind teams following a 'tradition' and I don't think you have to believe it has some magical impact.  Sometimes it's just fun to keep something going in a day and age where everything is over-analyzed to death.

Good lord, do you have to be this way about everything? I didn't say I minded if Teams don't touch it. It just might be fun if a team bucked the tradition once in a statement of bravado.

Crosby did it the second time the advance to the finals, they didn't the first time and they lost, so he figured it couldn't hurt, and they won the cup that year.

Cool, I don't remember that. Crosby seems like the type who'd do it though.

Was thinking of that before I read your post.

For those holding out that the Pens pick will be as high as possible, this result helps there. St. Louis has more points than Pittsburgh, so if Tampa goes to the finals then St. Louis' pick will be 28th and Pittsburgh's will be 27th.

You know when the Sharks gave Joel Ward that 3-year contract I was really sceptical, but boy has he proved me wrong. I mean at this point even if he isn't great in year three of the deal, he's already given you enough value to have made it worth your while. I suspect if he is healthy enough he'll continue to be at least an effective fourth line grind guy and if not you have him on IR getting relief.

Scored 21/22/43 in the regular season and has 6/5/11 in these playoffs.

San Jose 5  St.Louis 2.  Sharks win series 4 games to 2.

Congratulations San Jose!  Western Conference champions!

For the first time in the Sharks history, in fact in their 25th NHL season, Sharks fans saw their team advance to the Stanley Cup final, with convincing wins over the St.Louis Blues.

As for St.Louis, feel bad for Hitchcock.  The Blues were eventually overpowered by the Sharks  as the series closed out.  Better luck next time.
