Zach Hyman Suspended 2 Games

It looks like everyone's favourite children's book author will be getting suspended:

Ah well. As a fellow tribesman I hope this doesn't ruin the 8th night for him.

I think it was payback for that hit from behind that McAvoy threw on Marner. Oh well, late hit so he'll get a few games off. Anything that's .7 of a second or longer after the puck has been moved is a no no.

Good timing.

Feels like, over the last 2 years, the Leafs settle into some sorta funk around now. December and January have been months when the team's play slides, experimentation or a shake up of some kind is called for, and Babcock is slow to react.

I don't think High Man has a history of bad tings to tie to his kiddie book image. Maybe that will take that into account.

With no discipline history and no principle contact to the head, I'd be surprised if it's more than one game.

It's two losses after a 5 game winning streak. I am not sure we can call this a funk just yet.

Late hit, bad hit, whatever hit, I appreciate Hyman's manoeuver.

No, I'm no concussion-loving fan but something had to be done considering all that the Bruins were meting out there.

Suspension?  Fine with that. At least Hyman sent a message with his on-ice actions.

This is weird in light of the Reaves and Wilson stuff.

Johnsson time. And maybe Moore.

Seems about right. Almost feels like two is just about the minimum suspension length.

This should be a good precedent for the league with regards to player safety; I can?t see them really following through with it though due to their... uh... other times they set the opposite precedent.

Coming off the blind side interference hit that concusses Wilson I?m pretty sure the minimum was no suspension or fine

Agree with you. Fine with it. I think this is a direct result of that Marner hit. Good on him. Hope they call someone up for a few games.

The message is the league doesn?t know what the hell they are doing
Bobby Mac said a hit isn't deemed late, suspension worthy unless its .7 of a second after the puck is passed or shot. Humans must have been over that .6. Reaves on Wilson was .6. Says it's amazing the difference that .1 can make.

The Leafs are going to have to stand up to the Boston bullies at one point or another.  They'd better hope they don't face them in the first round of the playoffs.  Even then, they will probably have to face them one way or another.  It's going to take a total team effort to beat them at their own game.  We'll see who can handle it.

I was more saying that if you're going to suspend a guy, it seems like you don't see a lot of one game suspensions outside of the playoffs.

Suspension is probably right call, but, the league does obviously still have some issues with the standards they use - this hit was no worse than hits by or on Wilson in recent weeks. The key difference seems to be they neither Wilson nor Reaves moved outside of their apparent skating route to deliver the hit. If Hyman stays close to the boards and delivers a shoulder to should hit here, he probably gets away without a suspension, as well.
