I know goal scoring isn't the reason that Robertson isn't a lock for the lineup but I would 100% rather see Robertson start the season in the lineup over Cowan. Cowan has been ok, and a rookie should be more than ok to knock out a guy who is capable of scoring 20 goals. Cowan getting some AHL time and proving he can play with men should be the priority not rushing him into the lineup at the expense as assets.
