We may not be looking back fondly on it now without knowing how this time line worked out, but what a start for Treliving if he had traded Marner a month into the job. Maybe we are comparing that trade to the Kawhi trade today. Now it looks like he just took the safe road and we got burned.

I'm glad Bennet is off the table, if he really is. I know his playoff resume, but signing him as a UFA would surely backfire on the Leafs.

I agree along the lines of we have no money for depth because we pay the top guys too high a %. Marner is just the guy that has to go because of current optics and because his contract is up now and wasn't before one of the other two.

Ultimately, Marner signing here is his decision and I doubt he's re-signing. But yes the Tavares money could be enough to make some interesting changes, especially if you get rid of guys like Jarnkrok and Kampf too.

So they have 28 million to spend in the off season? Give or take. Knies will cost 5? Can they get rid of Rielly, and one of Kampf or Jarnkrok to free up another 10? That gives them 33 to spend. They can really goon up with that kind of money.
