    The extension kicks in July 1, and he sort of has to be traded before July 1 noon, so I’d imagine the Leafs and Marner would both prefer the bonus to come from the state tax free locale. Oh wait, does he need to be traded by July 1?

    GM and Coaching changes with the Leafs took their toll on the Marlies, who are designed to build up players that can plug into the NHL roster. Dubas-era contracts prospects and pickups lapse this offseason, so there is a chance to build this in the new Treliving/Berube mold.

    I suspect this gets officialized once the Marner sign-and-trade is sorted out, so the Leafs have enough cap room for whatever that number is and any other trade irons in the fire at the moment.
