John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

I think Tavares starts in the exact same place. 2nd line C. I don't know that him and Laughton would work. I'm not even sure that Laughton is much more than a real good 4th liner. 13 goals in back 2 back seasons doesn't really scream "move me up the line up".

John Tavares is still a Maple Leaf [4 years, $4.38mil AAV]

Only space I see Domi is on Matthews line. And if he doesn't work there, there's no real spot for him. He can't make up for Nylander's less than(although improved) defensive play. Can't carry a line. Like you, I was pleasantly surprised with him in the playoffs, but I just don't know that his...

MLSE part ways with Masai Ujiri

After doing a bit of digging, looks like Atlanta is/was very interested.

why immediately following the draft? Why not 2 months ago when the team was eliminated?

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Also comes with a bit of baggage having already gone through a contract dispute. 3 injuries over the last two seasons. I guess the only positive is it's the last year of his contract so if he struggles again, he won't be getting a raise.

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Do we think Zegras is worth that much considering his last two injury plagued seasons? I mean, he's scored a couple neat goals and had a good rookie and sophmore season, but hasn't been much since then. 32 points in 57 games isnt' exactly screaming "I need that guy". Especially at 5.75m

SCF: Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

Are there players on that Florida team that chose the Panthers over the Leafs? If not, I'm not sure what you're trying to get at.

SCF: Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

Let's not try to pretend that the way Florida played is anything new for the NHL playoffs and successful teams. They didn't break any rules with the cap. They used a loophole that other teams have used in the past. We can't be upset because someone knows how to work the system to their...

You would think there would be..but there isn't. I think the original poster is pointing out that Marchand is willing to do those little things. Many aren't.

The thing with Tavares, is that we've been waiting for this massive drop off and it hasn't occurred. This year certainly has a higher shooting percentage, but the previous year he actually dipped below his average and still put up 29 goals. I'm not saying that the leafs hand him ridiculous $$...

SCF: Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

It's not "more tough guys". It's build a team that plays playoff hockey the way it's been played for the last 30 years.

I agree with everything you said, I just wanted to touch on this line: Not that it matters, but do we feel that any of this was driven by Marner? We know that Ferris plays this game with every player he's represented. He knows(or thinks he knows) that Marner's next contract will be more if he...

    2025 Offseason Thread: Spring Cleaning

So, is it an indictment on Marner, or an indictment on the Leafs? They have a top 5 scorer in the league and they don't give him the tools to be able to produce at that level in the playoffs. Domi isn't that tool. Bertuzzi isn't that tool. They should be, but they don't have the "maturity" to...

    2025 Offseason Thread: Spring Cleaning

I don't know that Marner needs to be hitched to Matthews. He has 74 points in 60 games when Matthews is out of the lineup. Two coaches in a row seem to think the team is at its best when the two of them are together. That doesn't fall on Marner. Unless he's refusing to play if he's not with...

    2025 Offseason Thread: Spring Cleaning

I agree that Marner has to go. Not that he should, but that he "just has to". I think we can spin in circles on whether he is worth the money he is asking. From some angles he is, from others he isn't. The lack of success does not fall solely on Marner. It falls on the full group of "stars"...

I agree. and I get you. Except he's not doing it. He's not showing his several ways of scoring. He's not elevating his game and stealing wins for us. That's not a 13.25M guy IMO. If we're going to talk about Marner being this expendable, "regular season hero". We need to really look at...

Sorry, way behind on this. I'm in Northern Saskatchewan and things have been "spotty". I like Matthews. I really do. You're right. He scores goals. But, he has 4 goals in the last 18 playoff games. 9 in the last 29. He's scoring at a 25-30% rate. Other than his first season, he has never scored...

So, there's your everyday bullsh*t around here and then there's this. Come on man. We can't knock Marner for not performing and then create an excuse for Nylander. Well most of us can't. The issue isn't even about Nylander vs Marner. The issue is both of them(along with the rest of the team)...
