2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

If you really believe Verhoeff is a #1 D then you get him, but otherwise it's McKenna all day.

    Idiocracy 2024

He can't really back down now. They replaced the Ayatollah with the same guy except younger and possibly even more ideological, which is hard to believe.

Does losing really matter if you build a crappy team with a crappy coach? I mean, don't get me wrong, I get it, but we've all lived through eras of losing and the players didn't magically learn to hate losing. I assume most hate to lose if they're at the NHL level.

    Canadiens vs. Leafs - Mar. 10th, 7:00pm - SN

The apathy has set in, but I like hockey so I'll probably still watch a bit.

    Laughton to LA

I mean obviously the moves are in aggregate. Almost no single move is fireable, its the accumulation of bad trades along with the optics specifically of turning a first (which will now likely be high) and Grebenkin into a 3rd for a year of service of a poorly deployed Scott Laughton.

There's some rumblings about Doug Armstrong which I wouldn't be against but only on some radio hits. Also, we already went through the President/GM separation issue with Shanahan. Do we want to do that again? Either way I'd be a lot happier with an Armstrong/DeBoer combo than what we have now.

I think I'd rather the team play mediocre and just give up the 11th pick than hope we can get into the bottom 5. I don't have any faith they can win the lottery and think they will probably finish 5th and drop to 6th because it's the Leafs. Get this year over and done with.

He sounds like he knows he's done after the year is over.

    Can they fire Berube now?

    Lightning @ Leafs - Mar. 7th, 7:00pm - SN

Oh I agree there's no harm and we will only know if we play them. I just don't think this changes much in terms of where the Leafs are.

Most of those guys are fine, and seeing what you've got is a good idea but it's hard to view most of those guys as real needle movers. Quillan I agree with, but if anything that crop of guys just shows how little prospect depth we have.

I'm good with a President & GM title for one guy if it's a top tier GM.

    Laughton to LA

I still don't think it was worth paying that. Would the team really be much different without him on the roster last season and this? Just horrible pro scouting.

If that's what the offer was, yes. I'm not sure what the best offer was though.

I'm not mad at him taking what he could get. I'm mad at the price we paid for him in the first place. This is so bad optically.

    Laughton to LA

    This is so fireable.

Who's the mayor? Has this actually happened?

It's not a horrible return for Bobby McMann but you really wish you could've got more than that.
