2011-2012 NHL Thread

markhmasters: Jamie Benn's 6th of the season ensures Stars fans get free tacos if not a win; Kings lead 2-1 w 16 mins left in the 3rd #NHL

mirtle: Jamie Benn scores for the Stars and the place goes... mild.

I'm preparing myself for the inevitable "Kessel hasn't scored in 5 games, he's so streaky he sucks!" threads.

This year:

-  Bobby Ryan has not scored in 8 games (and counting).
-  Jason Spezza has not scored in 10 games (and counting).
-  Patrick Marleau had a streak of 7 games without a goal.
-  Jeff Carter had a streak of 8 games without a goal.
-  Eric Staal had a streak of 10 games without a goal and only 1 in 17 (and counting!)

Last year:

-  Rick Nash had streaks of 8 and 11 games without a goal.
-  Alexander Oveckin had streaks of 8 and 9 games without a goal.
-  Jerome Iginla had a streak of 7 games and only 2 goals in 15.
-  Patrick Marleau had a streak of 10 games without a goal.
-  Bobby Ryan had a streak of 8 games without a goal and only 2 in 16.
-  Eric Staal had a streak of 7 games without a goal.
-  Henrik Zetterberg had streaks of 9 and 11 games without a goal.
-  Henrik Sedin had streaks of 9, 10, and 11 games without a goal.
-  Daniel Sedin had a streak of 8 games without a goal.
-  Steven Stamkos had FOUR separate streaks of 6 games without a goal.

I could keep going but you get the picture.

I added a few more...

I forgot though:  All those players do so much more than Kessel when they aren't scoring  ::)

Most of those guys also have something in common with Kessel: at some point in their career, they've been hassled about a lack of production/consistency and a number of them have been criticized about their two-way game.

Sabres are getting spanked by Columbus. Yes, that's right, Columbus.

Crosby's helping Pittsburgh destroy another team too.  3 more assists for 7 points in 3 games back.

He's still riding the adrenaline of coming back. He will hit a wall in a few more games, although a wall for him will still probably see him put up .8 or so ppg though.

I'll bet he finishes the season well over a PPG.

I'm sure he will too, but I also bet that, after a few more game, he will go through a noticeable stretch were he gets fewer points than usual. That's not to say he will stay at that level for the rest of the year though.

Wait 'till he settles in.  :o

Well, it's certainly helped that 2 of the 3 games he's been back for have been against teams in the bottom 3 for GAA so far this season.

Man, I can't get over how good Nugent-Hopkins is already.  For such a small (not in height) guy, he's just so good.  Kinda like Gretzky in that regard - was never the biggest or strongest, but saw the ice better than anyone.

Yeah he is very good, but hyphenated names are just so distracting.

Edmonton should (should) be just scary in a couple of years.

Agreed. From now on, he shall be referred to as The Nuge.
