I'm sure Flyers fans are loving Luke Schenn so far. An own-goal (albeit, not really his fault) in Game 1. Two penalties that led to two power-play goals against in Game 2.

Upon video review, that goal turned out to go off Kennedy's stick (as a tip in) and Kennedy who was beside Schenn got credit for the goal. But he was Luke's man to cover ..

I'm not a Flyers fan but I hope Luke does well. Thought he was a decent guy who was brought along too quickly.

Looks pretty clearly off Schenn's stick: http://blogs.thescore.com/nhl/2013/01/19/luke-schenn-scores-own-goal-against-penguins/

looks like Kennedy got it to me

Best image of it I could find.  Like in the video, Kennedy's stick looks like it's above the puck to me.

Yeah, there's no way that's Kennedy's stick on the puck.

And I wouldn't really call it an 'own goal,' certainly not to be put in the McCabe category.

Well, no, it's not an own-goal in the sense that he shot it in his own net or anything, but it was, by definition, an own-goal.

ICYMI: Jaromir Jagr started his first season with the Dallas Stars by having a 4 point game. He scored 2 goals and 2 assists, having a hand in every Stars goal in their 4-3 win over Phoenix.

Honestly, JVR wasn't going to excel in Philly  He disappeared at times and was rather soft.  I think a change of scenery for both Schenn and JVR was best for both of them.
I hope Schenn does well, I think he can. I also hope JVR does well. Anything to help get the Leafs back in the playoffs. I miss that rivalry a lot.

Positive ratings for the NHL on NBC on season-opening weekend...

Seems like a lot of home teams have lost/are losing in their home openers.

Hopefully that changes tomorrow.

Good on Josh Harding for a shutout in his first game.
Wait what? I drafted Backstrom in both my fantasy leagues. Is he not the starter?

His # of starts have declined for a few years and he and Harding had very similar numbers last year so I'm guessing it's a 1/1b situation.

Florida Panthers: season tix start at $7 per game. Get free parking and jersey. Don't have to commit to next season.

That's nucking futs!

Meanwhile, a half season was lost to a lockout....

That was my point during the entire lockout.  Teams like these should be moved if no one wants them there.  Based on that price we can assume the demand is low.

Friggin Jets can't get it done in regulation, game goes to OT and that solves nothing, time for the shootout against the Bruins, hoping Boston loses.

Apparently Nino Niederreiter has requested a trade.  Not sure I blame him after leading their AHL team in scoring at 20 and not even being invited to camp, although it's not totally indefensible after not doing much with the big club last season.

Well, let's hope that Nonis has already made that call.

I was expecting Niederreiter to be in the Isles lineup. This team had expectations of him and should have showcased him to see whether he really is an improved player. Too bad he is requesting a trade. Obviously doesn't think his NHL future is with the Islanders.

Last season, he got 4th line minutes with almost no PP ice time. So I can excuse his lack of production to some extent. But his team second worst -29 accrued in so few minutes might suggest he's got a serious problem with his defensive game (I hardly saw him play so I'm not positive).

Wouldn't mind taking a look but he's probably got to spend some more time in the AHL rounding out his game.
