2012 NHL Entry Draft

Apparently every D-man is Lidstrom/Letang/Phaneuf. We should've traded most of our roster for 1st rounders.

This must be the greatest and deepest draft in all of history!

Comparing playing style isn't equating thier talent levels.

Hmmm... make that three other teams who have passed on both Forsberg and Grigorenko now. Weird.

4, if you count the Islanders.

True.... but the three post the Toronto pick might say more than just following suit with the Islanders... Know what I mean?

But Phaneuf sucks!!!!!!  :P

Apparently Chuck Fletcher didn't get the memo.

Maybe the defenseman are better than Grigs and Forsberg?  Maybe the Leafs scouting staff knows more about talent than people on this board?  Just sayin'

#8, Sutter and a prospect?

So, yeah, some folk here were a little optimistic about what he'd cost.

The concerns about Grigorenko are well documented; but why is Forsberg still available?  He was ranked second or third on a lot of lists with no questions marks.

I can't believe how little it cost Carolina to get Staal.  I would have thought that we could have given a better package deal.  Granted, that is assuming he would want to play for the Leafs.

If I play like Lidstrom, but without the talent, then I don't really play like Lidstrom do I?

They could spare us the "This guy is amazing, I love what Piitsburgh just did. This guy plays just like Letang" etc.

I can't say for sure, but Carolina seemed to be the only possible destination for him.

I wonder if Marc will end up there next.

That's the argumentative fallacy known as an appeal to authority. Dicey at the best of times, downright sketchy when the Leafs' scouts have spent the last three years convincing us that they don't so much.

It's almost pointless to draft for current need in the NHL draft. It's not like the NFL where most first-rounders come in and contribute right away. Only a select few talents can make that jump in hockey, and obviously not many think either Forsberg or Grigorenko can.

If nothing else, this move shows me Burke is adament to stay on his current path of stockpiling young players and hoping to build a real force here, as opposed to throwing a hail mary in the hopes of a quick fix.
