2012 NHL Entry Draft

This isn't a very helpful hypothetical question for several reasons -- in part because only 1 goaltender will (typically) play in any game or even in any playoff series and in part because a goaltender probably shouldn't ever be a consensus #1.

It was a terrifically helpful hypothetical question. I asked it specifically because it would represent such an extreme and so I would get a clearer sense of Froggy's point of view.

He answered yes so mission accomplished.

It sure is entertaining reading the tizzies fans get themselves into when the team doesn't pick a forward. I bet this guy will have sexier stats than the majority of forwards picked in the 2012 1st round.

He offered it and added that he wasn't saying this just for the sake of it, they really had him as the best player in the draft.

There can't possibly be anyone out there that thinks it's a good sign if Burke is that far out of the mainstream, can there?

I wonder what other gms think when burke makes statements like that.

Probably something akin to what Alex Ferguson thinks when Leyton Orient's manager starts yammering.

That's exactly where I'm at. Like virtually every draft pick it's just cross your fingers and hope.

I guess so. I mean, I think Rielly is an excellent prospect and doesn't feel like a reach at 5, I'm jsut not convinced he's the right prospect for the team to have taken.

Well, as you know, I've always maintained BPA so if he's the guy, he's the guy... I just wish that guy could have been a forward who could step in and play right away but really, that expectation isn't exactly a reasonable one anyway.

Just watched the video on MapleLeafs.com where Burke says they had Morgan Rielly as the top player in the draft. I wanted one of the reporters to beat him with the microphone.

Did Burke just offer that or was he asked where he had him? Because you know, ask a stupid question....
He offered it and added that he wasn't saying this just for the sake of it, they really had him as the best player in the draft.

Well that's interesting to say the least.

Actually, it's a load of crap to say the most.  They would have picked this guy over Yakupov?  Galchenyuk?  My God, if that were the truth and somehow they'd traded up to take Morgan Freaking Rielly, Burke would need to go into the witness protection program.

Absolutely mind-boggling.  I hope Cox calls him out on it.

Ok. Figured it was too much to hope for.

Martin Frk, maybe...?

I'm hearing that Burke has his eyes on a promising young offensive defenseman

Does he have a hilariously unusual name?
My thought exactly. With Hampus Lindholm, Zemgus Girgensons, Slater Koekkoek, and Olli (Mind Over) Maatta already gone, there are few names left out there to confound Bob Cole and Jim Hughson every Saturday.

BUF arguably could have the best 1st round, along with WSH.  They get Grigorenko and Girgensons at center.
