2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Could not be less of a sure thing.

With that said, there's a young boy inside me who remembers watching Vlad and the Expos take on the Jays and that young boy would love to see Vladdy do some damage at DH. He's old, but not too old to contribute as a DH.

He was barely a replacement level player last year and his last year with a 2.0+ WAR was 2008.

That said, Adam Lind has had a negative WAR the last three years so sad as it is to say, even getting replacement level production out of that spot is an upgrade.

Another good pitching performance by Alvarez. Bautista hitless again - hopefully he can put a couple out in the remaining few games.

I'm okay with the Vlad signing. Minimal risk, it seems.

I didn't think much of the Guerrero signing when I first heard of it because he looked like a shadow of his former self last year whose age seemed to have caught up to him.

But I didn't realize that he was a career .318 hitter, with only two seasons hitting below .300, one of which was last year when he hit .290 (his lowest ever).  That's pretty darn remarkable.

Seems like limited expectations have been set, but if he makes his way on to the big club, it does provide some intriguing options, some of which the club could use (ie. a reliable bat off the bench).  It may also put more pressure on Lind to perform because he's the one with the most to lose out of this.

Yeah, I agree. I guess if Vlad shows he still has a bat and Lind continues to stuggle, the natural thing to do would be to put to E5 at 1B, and have Vlad and Lind share the DH gig situationally.

Foxsports says Anthopolous has talked to the Phillies about the availability of Hamels and Victorino (both impending FA).

Not reading much into it, as I bet he talks to half the teams in the league like this.

First time in a while a Jays' starter doesn't go five after Drabek has a poor showing. Three runs, four hits, four walks and 109 pitches in 4 and a third innings. Carlos V. comes in and gives up three more.

Good news is that Joey Bats has two homers. ;D

6-3 Twins in the 6th.

Edit: ooo, Thames with a two run shot, now 6-5. Very interesting.

Edit 2: "A. Lind struck out swinging." Predictable.

He probably asked about Halladay and Lee too. AA talks to everyone about everyone.

Things I will never get tired of reading on Yahoo Sports: "J. Bautista homered to deep left." ;D

Bautista homers again, Hutchison pitches six strong innings and the Jays survive Cordero and Frasor's attempts for an eighth blown save to win 2-1!

Wilner can bleat all he wants about a 5-5 road trip being a relative success, but I am disappointed the Jays only got a split from the worst team in baseball.

Not just that, but they had Anaheim on the ropes and their game fell apart (fielding errors handed the Angels game 3 of that series).  And the Oakland series was a bit of a mess too.  The Jays are really showing themselves to be a team that is likely to be right around .500 all year barring changes.

They still haven't really touched the AL East, and the next few weeks are loaded with AL East and the start of Interleague play.  So far they have been mediocre against Baltimore/Tampa so they need a better showing for the rest of May if they want to be playing meaningful baseball beyond June.

But Boston and the Yankees are not any better than them right now really.  Just because they'll be facing them soon doesn't mean too much - it's really a toss up how they'll fare against them.

After all-around Jays hero Adam Lind committed an error to allow the go-ahead run to score on what should have been the last out, Morrow struck out Pena to end the... wait, he reached on a wild pitch? Then a two run single? Then a two run double? ADAM LIND YOU SUCK!!! ;D

Okay, Morrow really needs to learn how to not completely lose it because of a couple of bad breaks. Wow, he completely imploded. Also, Adam Lind has been terrible this year.

6-1 Rays. I'd say this one's done.

I think Lind is just tired of playing here. Either that or he just doesn't care about baseball. I have never seen a more disinterested looking player. I think it's change of scenery time for Lind.

He's reminding me of Hill.  Everyone waiting for him to find it again, but maybe he won't find it here.  We upgraded from Hill to Johnson, so we need to find someone to take Lind's at-bats because he's hurting the team right now.

I think it's nice that AA doesn't just throw assets away, but eventually he needs to speed up his decision making and recognize that sometimes just making a trade to get rid of a declining asset is worth it.  The Jays seem to be in a perpetual treadmill state of being completely mediocre and just waiting for the magical day where all the prospects come in to fill roster spots and celebrate success is just a bad way to draw fans out to see the team.

Complacency breeds contempt.

Same number of plate appearances and at-bats.  Bautista vs Hamilton.  Big differences.  What gives?  Read about it here, plus some other Jays news:

I think they need to move him to a team who will put him back in the outfield.  This 1B stuff somewhat coincides with his crappy numbers at the plate.  AA needs to start moving players in positions he has too many options, instead of trying to hoard them and move them around the diamond to try and make it work.  This team needs a legit 1B if it's going to content in the AL East.  It ain't Lind, and putting EE there is a stop gap at best.
